Just noticed on that QF agents site that they are advertising a fare ex-AU to Europe via USA. A check of E/F shows available fares too. This is something I have not seen for a while - it's even bookable on the QF website - although you need to do multi-city.

As an example of a BNE to LHR fare OLYAPEU routing includes:

1. BNE-BNE/MEL/SYD-AKL-PPT-DFW/LAX-BOS/CHI/DEN/DFW/LAS/LAX/
MIA/NYC/ORL/PDX/SAN/SEA/SFO/STL/WAS/YVR-AA/BA/QF-BOS/CHI/
DEN/DFW/MIA/NYC/ORL/PHL/PHX/WAS/YMQ-AA/BA/QF-LON

Although there are plenty via Canada and even South America too.

Doesn't NZ still go to LHR via LAX? They cut their HKG-LHR route.

Sorry - title should have read "Return of the QF Southern Cross Route to Europe".

QF codeshares with Air Tahiti on PPT-LAX. Don't think the codeshare extends to LAX-CDG though.

Interestingly, Qantas has a "Big Trip" sale on now - initially receiving the email it looked like that the fares were Australia/LAX/JFK/LHR, but clicking through the link it shows that the flights are via Dubai on the outbound leg.

Nonetheless interesting that they are promoting Europe via North America, albeit only in one direction.

An olive branch to BA that doesn't break the EK deal?

Could be... Hadn't thought about it like that, but when I did some dummy bookings yesterday pretty much all the transatlantic flights options where BA metal.

I'd say this is part of that promo, just that the emails examples aren't the only options.

BA and QF had a joint RTW fare, the "Walkabout" fare IIRC. Did that end with the JSA?
