Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Looks like VA wants to take over REXs regional routes through a takeover

“Rex and Virgin Australia are also exploring opportunities to support regional customers, which include Virgin Australia selling Rex’s regional services through code share or interline arrangements, and making Velocity Frequent Flyer benefits available to Rex’s regional customers.”

They are getting very close. Very interesting days ahead

Of course, the Govt funding to make sure you don't loose money.

From memory didn't Turkish Airlines and Delta sign up to be partners with Rex? Any news on what may happen here?

Very keen for TK to be partners with QFF or VV?

It was DL and EY that signed interline agreements with ZL. Both will revert to interlines with QF/VA/JQ in their booking engines.

EY also has a "one way/unilateral" codeshare on limited VA domestic services out of SYD and MEL, despite VA no longer codesharing with EY (VA replaced EY with QR a few years ago)

Turkish was in discussions with REX, but nothing eventuated.

Interesting what may happen here with TK, I would love an easy domestic option to book TK flights with points

That’s just petty. The QF announcement was 8.28am after a late night announcement from ZL. Only reason VA got in earlier was for their own self interests to take over the 737s.
QF did the same with Bonza for memory too didn’t they?
Waited for VA to offer assistance first and then jumped in after a bit of peer pressure

Wasn't it VA then JQ (separately) and eventually QF mainline in the case of Bonza?

It all happened in a matter of hours. It doesn’t matter, and nor does this.

It’s just petty by some to look for these silly things.

But if I wanted to be petty I’d point out the original VA Bonza policy was only to help pax mid journey (away from home). The QF policy was for all Bonza pax holding a ticket.

But again, none of this matters. Both airline groups are helping.

They should have worked this out about 10 years ago before their egos got in the way.

I wonder what Link will be thinking, also more work for Alliance I would think.

Depends on how damaged financially Rex is whether they will just fly government contract routes, not sure if they need VA code shares.

Its tough that there are no replacements for a 30 year old SAAB340, maybe some ERJ135s could be found cheaply.

Better late than never

Really?

While no-one here knows exactly, I have inferred from the stuff available publicly so far that either ZL or VA contacted each other over the takeover of the 3 leases before the Administration announcement was made.

So there was plenty of time for VA to be prepared get in early and also frame their announcement to sound like they were doing a lot when in fact their free ticket offer is significantly more time limited and only a possibility of they might code share blah blah blah.

I’d doubt they would suddenly codeshare with QF…
