Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

25min on hold and talking to QF operator, only to be told (in broken English) that the offer only covers flights until 31 Aug... Not what it says on their website.

Anyhow HUACA later.

---

Also report in AFR Street Talk,

That PAG Asia has tipped in more capital to allow the company to fund the administration process, and Houlihan Lokey (same IB involved in the Virgin process) has been appointed to run a sales process.

Wouldn't anyone who booked ZL after 31 Aug would do a charge back on their credit card instead?

That’s a worry, how much cash is actually left? I thought even Rex had around $60m in cash.

Only reason VA got in earlier was for their own self interests to take over the 737s.
The way the Rex statement was worded definitely sounded like it’s a deal between Rex and VA. The press release said “an agreement has been reached with Virgin Australia

If you booked through a travel agent and didn’t use a credit card you wouldn’t have this option. Though anyway it seems like VA is honoring all future Rex booking, it just requires you to submit the request by Aug 15.

But then you'd have to rebook flights at current rates - and be up for a likely fare difference.
Qantas PER-MEL return in early September
Welcome to AFF.
My HUACA (hang up and call again) was also successful and rebooked on QF MEL-SYD service in September. QF flight currently over 3x the price I paid to ZL so a great outcome.

On the call with QF they said ticket conditions were it wasn't changeable or cancellable (fair enough), and they might ask for further verification of my Rex booking (again fair enough given the equivalent Virgin form requests the booking PDF)
Also wouldn't add my QFF number, though I quickly did that via the booking ref and locked in seat selection.

They will accomodate passengers at a similar time if possible and if capacity allows it and for others it will be a case of bad luck unfortunately.
Certainly wasn't expecting VA to put on a new flight. More just pointing out that despite being a much larger operation the VA flight times may not work for some ZL passengers.
But with both QF and JQ coming to the party hopefully all ZL passengers can get accommodated.

I submitted the re-accommodation form to VA this morning for a cancelled ZL SYD-MEL J flight in a couple of weeks. We'll see what comes of it.

I picked VA instead of QF's lifeline because Virgin's T&Cs specifically mentioned attempting to accommodate J pax in J and they offered a simple online form as opposed to QF's advice to call them (shudder) and the fact they didn't mention anything about class of travel, just that they will attempt to find flights across QF and JQ.

I hope the majors will offer as many lifelines as possible to ZL staff as they are offering to passengers. Rex had some excellent cabin crew, and undoubtedly superb pilots.

Hi, first time poster here. I just wanted to report that I successfully rebooked our flights with Qantas PER-MEL return in early September. Booked directly with Rex.
Welcome to AFF and good to hear. Did they offer a choice of flights on that day or just the closest one? I guess it had to be done over the phone?

Fair enough, albeit it was only 2x 20min waits for me. Only in Y so don't know the answer to if they are offering J booking (obviously JQ couldn't do that).
One advantage of a call is it's booked immediately, rather than waiting a day or two and seemingly some flexibility. I was booked on an 8pm ZL flights , QF staff member suggested 6pm, but had no issues when I asked for the 9pm instead (obviously helped that I had already looked up the flights and knew what was possible)

Absolutely. VA probably in a better position to do so if they are picking up some of the aircraft.

Everything was done over the phone, waited about 20 minutes on hold. I was asked which flight I would like and was allowed to change my return flight to day after original ( giving us extra time in Melbourne).

VA Facebook announcement on rebookings.

We have received close to 30,000 rebooking requests since Rex announced last night that it had entered voluntary administration and immediately suspended its 737 jet operations.

We mobilised more than 200 additional Guest Contact Centre agents overnight and today to assist impacted Rex customers with immediate travel plans. Call centre wait times are currently 15 minutes on average – please only call if your impacted Rex flight has been cancelled and you were booked to fly in the next 48 hours. For bookings outside the next 48 hours, please submit a request on the Virgin Australia website here: Rex rebooking request

So far, approximately 3,000 guests have been rebooked, and our team is working quickly to validate requests that have been submitted, with priority being given to people travelling soon.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of impacted Rex customers and thank our team for their ongoing efforts to support Australian travellers.

Looking at the last financials released for H1, they did have some cash available. They must have burnt crazy amounts in H2, with only fumes left, PAG also tipping in further cash.

Tough day for those employees that were stood down. I hope they all find new jobs at VA/JQ/QF quickly, but I think the economy and the job market is heading for the worst given the persistent high interest rates.

Maybe the public will have to prop up some of those benefits, viz. similar to the Ansett ticket tax.

reporting that Rex will continue to fly to Armidale. Maybe someone should tell them or the Rex press officer that they pulled out of this route last year due to shortage of spare parts. Perhaps QF bought up the supply of Saab propellers to cripple Rex🤷‍♂️😆
<redacted>.

What’s not on, however, is outright misinformation and fake news quotes from so called “experts” being published in credible outlets like the ABC, as shown in post #251.
