Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

I feel like we’ve had this argument before.

In any case you can have an automated espresso machine with real beans vs whatever passes for “coffee” in a tin foil pod. It is what you’d expect in a motel room, not an airline lounge.

In any case, one thing you can count on is fresh wraps and sandwiches in the QP, sometimes that’s all that’s on offer but it is fresh, made to order (by you).
It would be unrealistic to expect a lounge the size of Rex to employ a barista at $50k a year. But it’s not nescafé either. It’s a perfectly acceptable cup of coffee for what it is.

Not sure I’m a fan of the ‘make your own’… and queuing to do so. VA and Rex are same same in that regard… just pick up and go.

I’m not saying to employ a barista.

I’m saying purchase a commercial automated espresso machine like the ones QF have in the QP (I think VA has them as well?)

Our definition of perfectly acceptable cup differs.

Wasn't Rex striving for 33% of the domestic market in 2020 when they thought VA would collapse?
And a good thing that was, too!

Imagine if VA had collapsed, leaving a single carrier in the market? That wouldn’t have been great for competition.

It could have gone either way.

You can’t blame them for that, given what we knew at the time.

And they have certainly put downward pressure on premium fares. BA business class for $349 for most of last year was really good.

I’m pretty sure that what they have in their lounges! They sydney one grinds the beans. The melbourne one uses pods. But it’s a huge machine.

The article says it’s Nespresso pods.

In any case, I’m more disturbed by the complete lack of spirits and lack of wine before 3pm.
The article is 2022!

Agree spirits would be nice. But I’d say the same about the VA lounge.

Wonder if that’s a recent change as I’m almost certain they had a machine with a bean grinder
Been at least a year!

Rex didn't fail on the jet side of the business because of its lounges. There seems to be a lot of snobbery about domestic lounges, but what Rex had this time round was well above the old lounge from years ago in SYD T2 that was a bit like a large meeting room behind a sliding door. Having visited QF and VA domestic lounges in recent years, only the MEL lounges that were tarted up a few years back could be regarded as very good. And as for QFF HBA, it is like the first day of department store Boxing days sales trying to get a share of the meagre offerings while keeping your seat from being stolen.

I was not aware VA didn’t have spirits in the lounge.

I’m surprised more people don’t complain about that, it would be a dealbreaker for me.

I’ve constantly complained via feedback. Nothing will get done about it though.
Whilst not a dealbreaker there are times when I go to a bar rather than the lounge for that reason

I think since the collapse of VA1 and the resurrection in the form of the low cost/hybrid cost VA2 the amount of FF’ers on here flying VA2 has decreased significantly, just isn’t as much conversation about them as used to be pre-COVID on AFF.

It’s funny back onto REX how quickly it felt out of the news though. Everyone has moved on very quickly.

I guess there wasn’t any camera footage of upset stranded passengers to make the news cycle linger.

Perhaps QF and VA could have gotten some street cred by inviting the press to talk to people that they provided flights for.

Could Rex eventually be convicted of trading while insolvent with the recent revelation that they’re unable to pay wages?

Could LKH be extradited to Australia?

The first step would be the administrator making that finding.i don't think they have yet.
