Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Is that not true? Rex Domestic was a budget airline that had somewhat generous baggage allowance and complimentary snacks in Y.
The media certainly viewed it as a "budget airline" over and over when it went into voluntary administration.
 
The fall out between LKH and his one time former 'bestie' JS has degenerated into a slanging match.

If you thought the alleged Borghetti, Hogan vs Luxon slanging match of VA 1.0 was bad, LKH and JS of REX brings it to a new low.

This was the issue with Rex. That we seem to be forgetting with all these tangents….

LKH and JS are nothing more than a pair of narcissists and bullies who treated their staff, customers and local governments with absolute contempt. There’s no surprise they’re showing their true colours now that their little worlds are falling apart.

As I said before, we pretend we are not corrupt in Australia, but Rex is the perfect example of everything that’s wrong with this little island.

An interesting anecdote from the AFR article linked in the article above, about what might have caused LKH to be booted as chairman back in June:

But it was PAG’s approach to Virgin in an attempt to determine whether the Bain Capital-owned group had any interest in buying Rex that led to Lim ultimately being deposed as chairman.

Lim wanted to be part of the talks with PAG, but as one person with detailed knowledge of those discussions says, “Jayne [Hrdlicka, Virgin chief executive] won’t have anything to do with him”.
 
When Rex was a "country" airline, it was in a separate category to the likes of DJ, JQ, YM and TT. Pilots behind a curtain and make your own cup of tea down the back, led to a very different flying experience (which I loved). So not originally a LCC, more a RRC (Rural and Remote Carrier).

When Rex was a "country" airline, it was in a separate category to the likes of DJ, JQ, YM and TT. Pilots behind a curtain and make your own cup of tea down the back, led to a very different flying experience (which I loved). So not originally a LCC, more a RRC (Rural and Remote Carrier).
I totally agree. I flew Rex quite a few times between 2007 and 2020. Not a 737 in sight. I too appreciated what it was then.
 
We need to think about what will happen to those 20-30 Saabs that have been parked at WGA and ADL for a long time and may not be airworthy anymore. Who’s going to pay to make all those Saabs airworthy so they can fly to ASP to be scrapped? They’re basically at present junk taking up space at WGA and ADL. I don’t think Rex can afford to make them airworthy even now let alone if/when they are liquidated.

There’s always an option of some rich person buying a dozen of them and converting them into cabins or something creative…couple could go to a local museum

I didn't realise every plane for scrap goes to ASP, hmm.

You’re a bit confused. ASP is for long term storage.

They can scrap in place. Remove the wings and put them on a truck.

I think the plan was to strip down at least some of the Saabs as spare parts. Of course, cannabilising part of your fleet to keep the rest going only works for so long, and eventually you have to do something else.
Whoever ends up with Rex will need to deal with the fleet.

There are scrapped QF 767s there.

The purpose of a “graveyard” is storage.

Scrapping is easy and can be done anywhere (but sure widebodies probably best be done offsite. Saabs can fit on a truck without their wings). It’s incredibly stupid to make an aircraft airworthy just to fly it so it can be scrapped. Just scrap it where it is.
