Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Depending on which aircraft they are they may need to change the inset on the J seats and paint the outside.
I would assume 2x of those aircraft are the ex-SQ/MI aircraft.

The third one, who knows if it's from their ex-VA 1.0 pile or the ex-Jet Airways aircraft (Can't see them being interested in the older ex-GOL aircraft).

Due to expected delays in Virgin Australia’s order deliveries for new 737 MAX-8s, Virgin Australia is in the process of securing leases for three of the 737-800 aircraft Rex will no longer operate. These aircraft will be used to support Virgin Australia’s existing published schedules. It will also provide us with capacity to respond if market growth accelerates faster than currently anticipated. Securing these three aircraft will have the additional benefit of enabling Virgin Australia to hire more Cabin Crew and Pilots, creating jobs that will be made available for impacted Rex employees.

I am guessing "the arrangement" with EY is basically, we want the planes and we may want the crews. We'll make it easy for you, you make it easy for us, and you get to keep some goodwill/reputation in the Rex brand.

Sorry George you have completely missed my point which is the QF timetable to ABX means less chance that Albury will see Melbourne specialists. It will also mean that Businesses based in Melbourne will find it much harder to visit their offices,factories etc in the Albury area.

I’d be surprised if many factory visits from Melbourne to Albury were done in anything other than car. By the time you go to MEL, check in, bus to the plane, taxi, take off (usually in the wrong direction), fly at prop speeds and then land, taxi and disembark, collect luggage (if any), rent a car and drive to site you would be there well and truly.

Yep good for Rex as they aren't pissing people off in the process and excellent for VA who is in need of more crew and planes. It's no secret many of the Rex 737 staff came from VA so I wonder how long it takes to get them back in the air as VA?
 
The decision the government makes in due course will forever decide the future of our regional aviation.

Do we want to bail Rex out and allow this foreign-owned corpse of an airline with ageing, unreliable aircraft, cosy political links and who are loathed by dozens of regional councils and airports for threatening and bullying behaviour to continue operating ‘business as usual’? Is this the best use of our taxpayer money? So much hard-earned taxpayer money has been wasted on this dead horse in the past five years. During COVID, they received more government funding than QF and VA combined from a proportional perspective.

Or could we simply let the rotten core fold, and let other turboprop airlines fill the void on those handful of exclusive destinations? Keep in mind that all of the five other turboprop airlines in this country are Australian-owned, so that’s a huge plus as well.


Do you think the people in communities like Parkes or Albany want more of the same, or would they potentially appreciate becoming a QF/oneworld origin and destination, further enhancing regional Australia’s connectivity with not just metro Australia, but the whole world.

You make it obvious that you have no idea of regional aviation and it's needs.
2 or 3 Saab services a day are much better than 1 Q300 service a day.
I agree, but as a regular flyer, I wish they had started a program to replace the SAAB340s. Yes, technically, the airframes probably have 20-30 years in them, but as an aircraft comfortable for customers and in good condition, they are not.

The adminstrator has stepped in and killed the loss making operations. Virgin agreement ensures most passengers have some protection.

The regional operations are profitable and I suspect PAG will utilise it's priority debt position to take control of that part.

If Rex are true to form they’ll ask, after all you might get lucky!
 
Tonnes of spare capacity. VA2 loads on the routes the Rexy passengers were on will easily soak up the extra.
And more importantly it means VA will only have JQ to worry about underneath them from a price perspective. The $99 fares/competitive response/anticompetitive dumping on MEL-PER can end.

I also expect VA J to go up now as they were matching Rex J.

I’d still expect Rex to beg the government.
 
Didn’t AN serve Japan?
AN served SYD-KIX-BNE-SYD from 1994 (start of ANi Long Haul) until their voluntary administration declaration in 2001. 743/744 with the occasional 763 substitution from time to time.
