Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

was a big deal at the time
I was commenting about the use of the word "outrage". There was no "outrage' though as you said it was a big deal at the time as QFLink has been the incumbent for years. Had a friend who would FIFO Moree once a month. He didn't like it.

And how did that work out for Brindabella
Hopeless mob who were, as it turned out operating on a shoestring budget - or less, though IIRC QF points could still be accumulated as Brindabella has an affliation with the QFFF program at the time via their codeshare agreements. Airlines such as Sunstate and Eastern (under the QFL banner) provided a good service to the community for years but the NSW Guvment knew better.

Its amazing isnt it, that if you look after a community, that the community looks after you. Same with ZL, there are lots of rural, regional and remote people who have a warm affinity with ZL - because they look after the community.

Until QF dumped them when CASA started grounding Brindabella.

That was my point. Going for the cheapest option in a tender is not always smart.

Going for the cheapest option in a tender is not always smart.

My point was that
1)there was no outrage...
2) And yes cheaper (assuming it was cheaper) is not always best, but we know how the Guvment works.....

Until QF dumped them when CASA started grounding Brindabella.
But until that happened, the passengers could still have QFFF points activity.

There was plenty of outrage once they lost their air service not even a year into the tender. Moree was literally begging QF to serve the route.

But until that happened, the passengers could still have QFFF points activity.

The deal was done quite a few months into the tender period and ended a few months before. I think they got 3 months of codesharing max.

But really this is off topic. The point is making sure these tenders are sustainable and in the best interests of the communities they serve. If that means giving it to the largest commercial operator so be it.

Yes, but try telling the NSW Guvment that.

QF illegal activities and their treatment of their customers was outrageous. Moree was not - there was a lot of discontent, but outrage, no.

You’re still not getting it.

There was plenty of outrage when Moree lost its air service. That is the whole point of this discussion.

I don’t know why you’re now trying to bring in unrelated issues with QF that have nothing to do with the topic.

I think have been reading the term "outrage" more often on AFF. I thought I would do a check of my understanding :)

outrage /out′rāj″/

noun

  1. An act of extreme violence or viciousness.
    "outrages committed by the dictatorship."
  2. Something that is grossly offensive to decency, morality, or good taste.
"viewed the film as an outrage to common decency."
  3. Resentful anger aroused by a violent or offensive act, or an instance of this.
"The incident sparked a public outrage."

Objectively incorrect.

To dismiss it as mere “discontent” suggests you are quite out of touch on this issue.

Hard to tell whether discontent or outrage, as behind a paywall.

Resentful anger aroused by a violent or offensive act,

I agree, resentment comes well after an act, outrage is at the beginning.

More information coming out as to why Rex were going backwards. Not surprising. They never had the patronage for 737's, revenue and profit look like they were merely a dream:

I've given up reading about Rex, it's such a farce. At least Bonza were trying something different while being farcical.

My general feeling is that management believed all they were missing to be successful was every ingredient required to run a successful airline.

Thanks but no thanks. Every time I read a creditors report on REX they owe more money that the previous report. Now up to $500M.
I actually would book if I need to.
- their SAAB operations are at least break even? It's a fundamentally sound business. There is no reason for them not to survive this. It should be a much lighter organisation (debt wise) once they decouple from their jet operations
- if we stop booking, then it would go from easy to difficult for them to be a business of going concern.

Almost wonder how such a small airline could dig a hole that deep.
When people start doing business based on ego?

Not saying Rex is saint or whateves, but I have no faith in leaving country towns in the hands of Qantas. I do not believe that the attitude of Qantas would provide a stable and financially feasible service to regional towns.

I agree, but I do think there was/is something rotten at Rex and while the industry is rather cyclical in the sense that the same people often reappear, a refresh would also probably do those same regional communities good in the longer run.

Which is why I would have been scared of VA 1 , because their business never made money bar what? One year? It was used as a last mile shuttle service by carriers overseas. Rex isn't, their regional network was sustainable.

Also, if Qatar kaput, you can fly Emirates, QF, CX, Singapore, insert anything here. You can't do that with Rex destinations (in the same category as Airnorth), these are more like regulated timetable bus services, these are essential services, you can't just let them fall away, just like you don't just let CDC or Transdev bus services die, and say "Let Greyhound take over". It doesn't work that way for these country towns.

VA1 lost of money in their vanity project, but DJ was a sound business before they tried upping the ante on QF (DJ is essentially what VA2 has become).

I think the fundamental thing is that the shell of Rex is important to maintain, in whatever form that may be. Not so much the company itself. That could be Rex Mk II with new executive management, or it could be a new company/new brand or it could be other organisations taking over parts or all of Rex's operations (eg WA ops could be standalone, as could be the Qld milk runs fulfilling goverment contracts). I am sure the administrators will work it out. I don't think QF is the answer though.

Anybody had Qantas respond to the web form to rebook rex flights in September?. Ive had no reply and it's been like 10 days now. Virgin rebooking offer ends tomorrow but I'd prefer to fly Qantas. No email acknowledging the form submitted either. Guess I'll have to call!
