Rex launches its own frequent flyer program (in October 2023)

My fiancée will be happy. She prefers Rex over the other domestic hoppers, so I can't see me chasing QFF perks for much longer. :D

I can see how many points you get for each flight, pending airfare cost, but how many status credits do you get per flight?

In any case, it makes for opening up reward seats on more regional locations. I wonder if this and the likes of Bonza's new routes might be able to inspire more regional or rural travel. It would be good for those areas and good for us to learn more about our own country. What are your thoughts?
I doubt it promotes any tourism. Domestic travel is just extremely costly when compared to visiting South East Asia (even for flights).

Definitely helpful for the locals that need to travel in and out though.

As for Bonza... Right now the expectation is that they'll fold at any moment. I imagine all 3 other airlines are prepping for rescue flight scenarios right now.

Er, um, did I see that right.
REX flyer, according to pointshac*s website, has an annual fee of $1450?

Re: colleague Mel_traveller, not sure, didnt go indepth.
But with what I thought I read with that on pointhac*ks, $1450 a year for the joining fee is a lot of $.
Only good thing about flying REX, is their J fare ADL - MEL is cheaper than VA on most days.
But for $1450 in annual "loyalty fee", no thanks.

Must be getting old, thought I saw it had one.
Maybe it was their former Rex business FF system that had that annual fee.
Edit: sorry, yep, it was REX flyer, their former FF system that had that fee.
Sorry about the hiccup.
As you were.

Are there any new (or any at all) point earning partners with REX FF?

No FF partners, but I think there is a sort of something of an agreement between ZL and DL...
Could be wrong, but I think maybe that their liaison with DL is only that each will carry eachs flight number on/as an extension of the others flights, but as for earning, most likely not, think I read that there is no link in their FF programs (as yet/not going to be)...
No credit or debit cards liaison.
No hotel liaison.
No car rental liasion.
No mobile phone or ISP liasion.

ET (executive traveller) says they (ZL and DL) plan to link their FF program later this year.

ZL has interlines with both DL and EY. At this stage, ZL only confirmed plans to upgrade the DL interline to a formal FF partnership.

ExpertFlyer doesn't show the EY interline but interestingly does show they can interline luggage to Royal Brunei and Gulf Air.

Interline Agreements:
Flying ZL
E-Ticket Interline Agreements
DL
Paper Ticket and Baggage Interline Agreement
MAY ISSUE TICKETS INCLUDING
BI DL GF ZL
MAY CHECK BAGGAGE TO
BI DL GF ZL

They need to add Perth and Cairns if they want to be a viable alternative. A recent flight I took from Cairns, had a lot of American Airlines bag tags in the overhead bin.

Do you think all those AAdvantage members are really going to fly Rex when they can get their Oneworld benefits on Qantas?

Interline between EY and ZL just came online after being announced months ago. Although not surprisingly the EY6600+ series VA domestic codeshares are cheaper.

ZL really need to get the transcons going. PER-SYD/MEL/BNE. It will significantly improve the connectivity with their regional flights on both sides of the continent and also provide much needed competition which should drive prices down a bit. The current fares for the transcon flights on QF and VA are just ridiculous at present.

That’s fine for the status match… but when are they going to honour the benefits for those that currently have that status?? We’re now past ‘early May’ for the launch, which has already been delayed 3 months.

Rex’s current J class award prices are ridiculous… the cheapest is 34500 points one way business MEL-SYD, with the odd unicorn flight for 18400. The program launch is supposed to see the 18400 available on any flight with seats left 24 hours out.

Rex really needs to get at least a couple of high profile international partners before being taken seriously by regular flyers. DL seems like a logical partner.

Rex need to get a stack more jets before they worry about International partners IMO.
They simply don’t cover enough routes or have enough frequency on the routes they do have to be a consideration for me

I do wonder if the discussions between ZL and TK had eventually fizzled out, and TK decided to rely mainly on QF interlines (TK does not interline with VA at all in either direction).

At the moment DL only has a few interlines with the two most commonly known being DL and EY, and both are former major VA partners (EY is now only a minor partner in the unilateral direction, codesharing on VAd and is still a Velocity redemption partner, but EY has been replaced by QR by VA internationally).

Agree

For this program to be worth anything, two things need to happen. A few million spent on lounge upgrades, and network expansion. You don’t need to spend tens of millions upgrading lounges. They are not huge spaces so won’t be as capex heavy.

Transcontinental needs to happen pronto. Cairns also. Rex should also be hitting up that peak demand into Darwin.
