Rex launches its own frequent flyer program (in October 2023)

I guess it's safe to say REX's Frequent Flyer program won't be launching in 2022 unless if they pull off a "New Year's Surprise".

I suspect this thread will have to update the date to '2023 launch' (unknown of any ETAs on REX's program).

And just like that... another empty airline promise.
I enjoy flying Rex to and from Sydney on a weekly basis. Hopefully they get there ducks in a row and launch a great program imminently.

Perhaps they don’t have the ability to finance it at the moment, or don’t know how to make money from it. Would cost a bit to setup such a program, IT systems might need to investment to make it work.

I think they might struggle to get partners to join them. They operate such a tiny network, everyone is largely tied up with the other two who have the networks to make it worthwhile for any partner.

Flybuys was looking at what programs they partner with, they may well decide to allow to transfer points to all 3 to give customers maximum flexibility.

Woolworths has a contract with QF so that won't happen will be a clause in it somewhere.

I fail to see why anyone would transfer points to Rex vs the other two, unless someone is purely using points to reduce regional flight cash spending. Rex just doesn't have the frequency or network so I would always transfer to QF/VA.

Budget/Avis have a exclusive contract with QF locally. 7/11 is tied to Virgin. Sixt might be an option for Rex. The money with FF Programs is all tied to Banks/Credit Card offers isn't it?

They need to spend a few million on some lounge upgrades first.

Without knowing what the program looks like when it eventually launches, I don't think that conclusion can be drawn yet. For example, it could be a good option for Australians to book award space on Delta.

I was thinking something along those lines… become a partner in Delta’s FF program. Perhaps with a special provision that Rex FFers don’t need to complete any minimum DL metal requirements?

Would still require ZL to build infrastructure to take FF numbers etc. But they wouldn’t have to administer the points or memberships. Maybe a person or two to act as liaison with DLFF.

Sixt is linked to vA.

Would be interesting what the contracts say about exclusivity.

In the US, the Avis and Budget are with both UA and AA, whilst Hertz and Thrifty (and Alamo, Dollar and National) are with both AA and DL.

And hotel chains also tend to sleep around bit, too. Pardon the Pun.

I wonder what's the latest news on REX's FF program since they missed the 2022 deadline?

Seems to be quiet for the first 5 months of 2023, whereas they had announcements throughout 2022. I wonder if REX quietly deferred the FF project until further notice.

I assume the IT platforms are just not up to the job. You would think 5-10m would be involved to get a program up and going.

Or even piggyback off the frequent Flyer program of a partner airlines such as Delta. This would follow the example of Qatar airways adopting avios.

I reckon they might also be facing some roadblocks trying to tie in partners with the program. After all, most are already under contract at the competitor.

Not sure how Rex can make money from a program considering how small the Jet network is.

Except Delta is not really a proper partner... it is only an interline relationship which most other airlines have with each other... QF has an interline relationship with Delta and there are no FF crossovers.

And considering REX has deferred their FF program indefinitely, it makes it hard to pick up alternative partners, many of which are tied to the big two (or some cases Both).
