Rex to fly between Australian capital cities

I somewhat feel like the current regime have no idea here, would a takeover actually be better for Rex? Assuming they toss out pretty much all management?

Who’d want to take it over? The 737 operation is a total failure, the SAAB network has been decimated. They have no crew, more than half the fleet isn’t airworthy and QantasLink has stepped into all the routes that made money without government assistance.

REX is sadly in its death throws. Once PAGs money is gone (anyone’s guess… 6-12 months?), the show is over.

The NJE operation would very much be the only operation of any Value under the REX group, should REX end up filing Voluntary Admin.

NJE would be an ideal target for Alliance (stronger candidate) or alternatively VA under VARA (integrating SA and WA FIFO/Regional operations, as well as acquiring Embraers as the x3 Fokker replacements in WA).

It begs the question what would happen to the 6 contracted routes in QLD most of which aren't serviced by other carriers plus the scattering of other regional airports that also don't have QantasLink around. With Qantas planning to phase out the smaller Dash 8 aircraft some of these routes might become impossible if Rex was to stop operating unless some other small carrier picked them up.

Skytrans might pickup a few of the QF dash 8s. They’re probably a big enough player to take over the subsidised routes.

I'd be surprised if VA want to go down the acquisition route again and introduce new types, at least until the IPO gets done. Alliance definitely likely though.

Yeah, and recently bought out by Avia (big Euro charter outfit with a bunch of airlines under their umbrella) so some resources behind them.

Doesn’t LKH and family own half of NJE? I assume they could buy out the other half to avoid it slipping into Administration alongside everything else

Yup, LKH owns 30% of NJE and his brother in law Tjoa owns 20%. This also got them in trouble with ASIC.

Per the paywall article in The Australian, it clearly states LKH wants his old (defacto) CEO role back. Thus the upcoming turbulence in the REX boardroom which makes the old VA 1.0 brawl between Borghetti, Hogan and Luxon look tame in comparison!

Pel-air could also be of value. NSW and VIC air ambulance contracts have only just commenced. Although there is a lot of issues and penalties owed with Victorian contract at the moment.

Sydney slots, new hangar in Mascot, 737 sim. There is a few things PAG can liquidate to recoup their $150mil investment.

I think many Sydney slots are not permanent, I recall essentially the whole 737 operation uses ‘not in use’ International slots.

I noticed Rex has recently added SYD-BNE flights on 10 November

I think that should anything happen to REX - we would see QF retain / extend the life of some of these Dash 8's that they were planning to 'phase out' - not all of the 300s are *that* old (particularly in comparison to REX's SAAB fleet) - and the rest of the (currently being bulked up) QF Link fleet are Q400s.

Don't forget anyway - QF ran their own previously operated QLD subsidized routes with Q400s anyway.

... that, OR, this is an opportunity for Link Airways to step up and add a few SAABs to their fleet and expand their network.

November is the new slot season so they would be tied to whatever they are given, which would mean many schedule tweaks each season.

According to reports on another forum, the current REX board has at least two months to accept LKH's "board spill" request (also known as S249D). The REX board could easily hold this after their financials announcement, thus slowing LKH's "attempt" to get his old job back.

Saying that, any resemblance of a "united" REX board is well and truly gone (It's almost as bad as the old VA 1.0 board) as the media is likely to probe further on the inner workings of REX.

Not on flights on the W1, W2, N1, N2 and Gulf routes. Yes C1 was previously Qantas but the rest weren't. Qantas operated these back in the early 2000s before going to Skytrans and more recently Rex.
