How risky would is it to add flights onto a rewards booking that includes business class with Fiji Airways? Has anyone had someone from a Qantas Contact Centre do this and successfully had their tickets reissued without losing their seats?

I will need to fly domestically in the USA to meet my flight to Fiji. When I made this rewards booking there was no American Airlines flight availability due to date being too far away. Ideally I'd like to add this USA domestic segment to my existing CR booking, as there is a sizeable points saving for doing so. Not having to collect and recheck bags would also be an advantage. I do not wish to changes existing flights, just add an additional one at the start.

My existing flights are a combination of Fiji Airways and Qantas only. Does the fact that Qantas, Fiji Airways and American Airlines all sit under the Qantas Classic Flight Reward table make rewards booking modifications any less risky compared to other partner airlines?

Cheers
