Risks of adding a leg to Qantas Classic Flight Reward booking that contains Fiji business class?

How risky would is it to add flights onto a rewards booking that includes business class with Fiji Airways? Has anyone had someone from a Qantas Contact Centre do this and successfully had their tickets reissued without losing their seats?

I will need to fly domestically in the USA to meet my flight to Fiji. When I made this rewards booking there was no American Airlines flight availability due to date being too far away. Ideally I'd like to add this USA domestic segment to my existing CR booking, as there is a sizeable points saving for doing so. Not having to collect and recheck bags would also be an advantage. I do not wish to changes existing flights, just add an additional one at the start.

My existing flights are a combination of Fiji Airways and Qantas only. Does the fact that Qantas, Fiji Airways and American Airlines all sit under the Qantas Classic Flight Reward table make rewards booking modifications any less risky compared to other partner airlines?

Cheers

Finally ticketed! 😀

After waiting 48 hours with no new e-ticket, today I called back using the Qantas Click To Call number (choose reason 'Get confirmation of my booking') and this consultant was happy to investigate what the problem could be then and there. After holding for a little while they said the updated itinerary email should arrive by the end of the day, maximum 24 hours. To my surprise, just 10 minutes afterwards that coveted e-ticket email did indeed arrive, yay!

Fortunately, despite waiting those 48 hours neither the AA or FJ sectors were lost. Phew! 😅

My question exactly. Have you found an answer?

Adding an additional sector (provided it meets the constraints of the program) is allowed and possible.

The main issue is the competence level of individuals of the various call centres and the time to ticket to resecure all sectors.

Whether it is less or more risky with FJ sectors as opposed to any other partner airline like MH CX QR etc, I cannot answer.

Shouldn’t be a problem. I do this sort of thing all the time

Presumably so do most people cobbling together a OW redemption. Which FJ will soon be a contender (and make getting across the Pacific that little bit easier).

The first Qantas consultant I spoke with about adding additional flights to CR booking said USA new flights cannot be added to my existing booking because the booking would not be reticketed. They said the only option would be to separately book the additional flights and have the contact centre link these bookings together.

On the bright side, it only took 5 minutes to be connected with someone after dialing.

EDIT: After HUACA, I spoke with a different consultant who was successfully able to add the additional domestic flights to my rewards booking. Both additional flights show up in My bookings alongside the existing flights, all showing confirmed status. Now awaiting for reticketing (24-48 hours). AA, FJ and QF, hopefully all goes through without a problem... 😬

Exactly. I’ve previously posted about Manila managing to cancel my whole itinerary of about ten flights, when all that I was doing was adding a single flight. Fortunately, Rewards Escalations managed to get them all back.
