Roomba, Dysons, Thermomix and other household appliances

I've commented on this in the past. Many people don't eat enough salt - especially the iodised version. Eat a bit more salt if like me you get leg cramps. After adding a bit of salt on advice of vascular surgeon friend , the cramps went away. He gets a few pts come to him with this complaint - the original thought was poor circulation. My Bp didn't go up.

And iodine important for kids development and reducing incidence of goitre
I recall reading an article more than a decade ago regarding significant brain damage health issues emerging in Sth Africa due to the reduction in salt use.

A question for those on here that have a roomba. I am thinking of getting one for our large family room/kitchen. It has a "engineered hardwood " floor and there is a large rug in the family room part. Is a roomba a good idea for this ? And what happens when you go away - just turn it off ? Are they worth the money ? Is one brand better than another ? Thanks in advance ! :)

DIL loves it and had hardwood and carpet. They programme it to go into every room.

Reduction in iodine? Rather than salt?
Since December 1995 South Africa has mandatory iodisation of table salt, at a level of 40–60 ppm replacing the previous voluntary mandate which existed from around 1954. Salt is the major way people obtain iodine in their dietary intake, unless they consume vast quantities of fish.

Recently decided to get our three Dyson fan/purifiers serviced in preparation for summer
First one done no issues , returned and working much better lol
Second one failed and Dyson replaced it (apparently due to the fan no longer available)
They replaced with Dyson Hot Cool white/silver.
We were so impressed decided to replace the third fan ourselves with the hot and cool
However the news one (like the first ) are all able to be managed by app
Just can't get the app which we already use to see the new machines
We have looked at YouTube , uninstalled and reinstalled .
Any one has issues and subsequently solved ?

I find the device app to device connectivity flakey. Ive reverted to mostly just using the remote rather than the app to control the hot/cool/purifier.

I'm sure like some here, they've hired the Britax carpet washing machines. Years ago. I've used the tradie carpet people but who seem to charge the earth and not impressed. The britax machines are heavy, messy, a process to hire to and generally also a pain in the butt process. But my small carpets need cleaning, especially the bedroom one which is the only wall to wall and is the place the cat runs to to yak. Unless I catch him.

I've been researching carpet cleaners online. Quite expensive and really the reviews are mixed. I had to go into Bunnings and Hardly Normal is next door so I popped in for a look. Yep. Around $700 or so. There was also a Vax for $199. A smaller footprint. A google search gave it pretty good reviews but clearly only designed for small areas. AKA, my situation. So I bought it. Being hot yesterday and today a perfect time to test.

So easy to set up. Was up and running in a couple of minutes. And it worked a treat. No more shady spots where I'd cleaned but could still see the areas. Bedroom carpet dry within around 6 hours. It's always excellent, but worrying, cleaning out the dirt reservoir. It has done its job. Today, hot again, so set it up to clean three rugs. They looked clean before I started . But youwsers, the dirty water from the tank, plus cat hair, was well, very brown. Can highly recommend this for small jobs.

Washing machine. My three year old LG washing machine has an internal leak. I was hoping it was the hoses or loose connection externally. It has now started tripping the surge device so time for action. Plumber confirmed it was something inside The guarantee for 10 years is only for the motor. Of course. Decided against repairs. Sadly a new one just ordered and will be delivered tomorrow. They will reconnect and take away the old one. I suspect a handy person might be able to fix it. Likely worth a go. I'll mention it to the delivery guys.

When we got married we were given a washing machine. It lasted 20 years with no issues. Those were the days.

That sounds a great bargain. I've been thinking about getting something like that but to be honest I think the stains my tenant left aren't ever going to come out. Debating whether to get another carpet for my bedroom because I doubt I can match the floorboards

Washing machine sucks

You know you'll keep looking at the stains because that's all I did. If not planning to rent out again I'd stump for a new carpet.

We got rid of carpets

Its impossible to clean carpets and its not really for the Australian climate. When we did have carpets at the rental we used Britex (hired from either Woolies or Bunnings. They removed a lot of dirt, but irrrespective of how many times we used it the water would always be black.

BTW the pay someone to carpet clean your carpets is a waste of money - they go through it quicker than it takes vacuuming.

Yes. I like a carpet in the bedroom though. My carpets are nice and clean now. 😂.

We went through that phase, but now its floor boards.

There is no such thing..😀
I'm older than you. It's not going away. When we were renting, it was impossible to clean the floorboards. It faced west and when the sun beamed in, they looked horrible, dusty etc. Even daily cleaning didn't prevent it.

Correct but at least you can see where it is. Carpets do not prevent dirt accumulation - the same amount accumulates - you just cant see it as its hidden in the carpet.

And dont get me started on carpet stains......Nothing gets rid of carpet stains....
