Row 4 - 737

Midnight ticked over and seats are still there

And yes all are domestic bookings made on QF website

So who wants to make a guess on how long until Qantas removes this loophole? I'm sure that while QF don't participate here anymore they do still read the threads. If a few WP1s start complaining about not getting row 4 and asking if there are really that many WP1s and CLs on that flight.

A review of allocated seats will determine that there are people no currently eligible to be seated in these seats and people will probably be moved. Then there will be tears.

I'm using the loophole under the assumption that if it works, bonus, if not then oh well. Tears I'd imagine would more likely be from the higher status folk if it does work....

I've allocated seats for a couple of bookings. As has been said previously, the economy cabin seatmap was completely open, so it will be interesting to see what happens if you've picked one already chosen by someone else.

So who wants to make a guess on how long until Qantas removes this loophole?

Qantas took no action to correct a seat selection glitch on their own website which resulted in lost revenue. The glitch had been directly brought to their attention.

Funnily enough, once posted on OzBargain it was fixed within 24 hours.

QF Legroom Seat Selection Charge Glitch?

Have a couple of bookings for next year. One done through Amex Travel (QF97 BNE HKG) and reward booking through QF but mainly on EK metal (only QF flight is domestic leg SYD BNE). The Sri Lankan MMB doesn't recognise my booking done with Amex. It does pick up the reward booking and allows me to select seats but when I confirm seat selections it comes up with 'SOMETHING WENT WRONG" :(

Just managed to use this hack to get two seats in the Emerald City of a QF35 award flight to Singapore next year.

It took a few attempts that errored out until I found some presumably empty seats that worked.

Hope it sticks

I really doubt these seats will hold.

I agree.

People should not get caught up with whatever site says whatever seats. It is a very grey area.

To my knowledge, no airline has any obligation to ensure you keep seats that you select.

And many a time the seat that I had selected on whatever site never carried through to boarding. The only seat allocation I trust is the one that you get when you get your boarding pass.

I think that this was never a "loophole" - it was just phantom stuff.

Sorry.

Tried this hack for 2 upcoming QF flights (1 domestic and 1 international to NZ) and it wouldn't even bring up my bookings. Oh well.

Thanks VeniVidiVici... this worked perfectly for me on one trip that included both domestic and international legs each way. Seats were showing as blocked on QF site, available on ExpertFlyer and my changes were accepted. Now they are reflected on the QF page. Fingers crossed there are no changes... but even if there are, thanks for sharing the info.

I think it's overstating it to say that non P1s/CLs are not eligible to be seated in row 4. I've never been P1, but I have sat in row 4 on occasion, simply by selecting an available seat within T-80. I believe this has always been allowed if seats are available - so how would a grumpy P1 know that the "unworthy" people in row 4 didn't just select their seats close to departure time?

In any case, to my knowledge there is no published written policy about who has access to row 4, or when such access becomes available. All the QF website states about this benefit for P1s is:
"Get access to more seating options in the first few rows of the Economy cabin (subject to availability) when choosing your seat8 at qantas.com. Available on selected Qantas operated flights with a QF number on your ticket.

8. Complimentary Seat Selection (with preferential seating) is available immediately after booking and is at all times subject to availability of requested seats. Seat Selection is available on domestic and international Qantas operated flights with a Qantas flight number (QF1-199 for international and QF400-1349 for domestic, excluding QantasLink) immediately after completing your booking up until 3 hours before your scheduled departure. Seat requests cannot be guaranteed due to operational, safety and security requirements.
"

This is all pretty vague and certainly doesn't say that lower status (or even non status) pax are ineligible to sit in row 4. It also seems to say that P1s do not have a right to get someone bumped from a seat that has already been selected. Conversely, it makes it clear that seat selections are never guaranteed, so I agree that people exploiting this loophole might get bumped, but I certainly wouldn't assume that will happen.

I just tried for a couple of flights next week, got all the way through abut got the error message. Perhaps because booked via our work Travel Manager.
I'll just wait til T-80 like I always do!

This worked for me in Y on an A330 domestic flight two days ago.

Didn't push it and move right up the front.

I changed some domestic seats a few days ago and they still appear to be holding, but a new booking made yesterday via corporate TA returns an error message. Looks like the loophole has been closed.

I used the UL trick to snag 4A for both directions on BNE-CHC-BNE trip and both stuck. Nice!

I'd be worried about the "oh well". Would hate to end up in 29E on a full flight.

I'll stick with row 6 and the possibility of moving to row 4 at T-80 hours. Much safer.
