SC & FF points earn when buying extra seat "for comfort"?

Yeah taxes were paid on both seats as they were booked as if there were for two different passengers, so I received two boarding passes when I checked. Did the booking online myself. Points and SC's appeared within 48 hours of each flight, no follow up required :-)

Was it in the same booking, or different? Sometimes they cancel bookings if they think it is a duplicate.

If they all had the same name it might make it easier to credit all of the FF points to the one account. :D Imagine that, 32 flights in one day and instant WP requal.

32x120=3840SCs in one trip. More than half way to LTS.

Not just WP, but you'd qualify for WP1!!!

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

Just booked myself some "Comfort Seats".

Essentially you phone up QFF, as you can’t do it online, and they waive the assistance fee. The extra seat doesn’t attract taxes either. So I booked a SC run BNE-ROK-MKY vv for what would have been $4/SC but because of the extra seat without taxes it’s been reduced to $3.25/SC. For an Australian domestic flight, that’s quite decent I think.

Booking is still working it’s way to me, but doesn’t appear to show anything related to extra seats on Qantas’ site.

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

Jetstar $9 sale fare (plus the "plus bundle") with 25 "comfort seats" - an easy was to get to WP in a day :)

I wonder if there is a maximum on the number of comfort seats you can have?

I wonder if it is any different to making 15 seperate individual bookings on the same flight with the same name and the same FF details?

I cannot see this working!

AFAIK you can’t make multiple bookings for the same flight (and fly them all at the same time), you’d need to have comfort seats, and I’m not aware of the number you’re allowed per person, or if Jetstar offer them in the same regard. For example, the JQ fares need an add-on for SC/points, but you probably wouldn’t be able to add that on for a comfort seat, which on QF removes taxes.

There’s also the issue of $9 fares being sold relatively quickly. There was a sale today for OOL-SYD at $9 and the website became completely unresponsive for me, so I can’t even imagine what phoning them would have been like…

Your best bet would surely be waiting for a sub-$70 sale on QF. A couple years ago they had a $49 sale, it could happen again.

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

An interesting variation of this would be if you could buy two seats in the US on a YUPP run, and score double the SCs for those runs...

AA dont credit miles for "comfort seats" not sure how the linking would go back to QF.

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

If I am making a booking though the Singapore website and on a third party flight (AF codeshare to Paris) can this still be done, and will the price paid reflect the AU website or the SIN website?

It has to be done over the phone, but I’d imagine the price would reflect the point of origin. So if you were booking a SIN-LHR flight the price quoted and the price minus the taxes would be ex-SIN not ex-Australia.

I’m not sure about codeshare flights, you’d have to call them up and ask.

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

I am going to call Qantas tomorrow and ask but thought I would ask here just in case - can you just buy it for one portion of a trip? for example we are flying - BNE - SYD - DFW and then DFW - BNE........the first SYD to DFW flight we are all in the back end of Y in the 2 seats (taking up 6 of them)....on the way home I have not purchased my seats and can not get all 7 of us on the 2 seaters so have decided to wing it but could I buy a comfort seat from DFW to BNE (probably end up being 2 or maybe 3 confort seats between the 7 of us)

PS - just checked from the US side - an adult ticket is $788US and child is $591US - so could I get a comfort seat for my chid at nearly $200US cheaper? so have 1 adult, 1 child and 1 child comfort???

Let us know how you go, but the child comfort seat would earn to the child’s account, and don’t discounted fares for children earn less anyway?

> 1 paid seat/fare per pax earns > 1 lot of QF SCs and FF points?

looking to purchase an additional Y seat to go with the existing seat and wondering if i will earn 2 x SCs along with 2 x FF points.

Here's the QFF T&C on when SC is not earnt:

<SNIP>
20.1.3 Status Credits are not earned for travel on:
(a) certain oneworld Alliance Airline and Airline Partner fare types and routes not listed in or that are excluded in the Airline Earning Table (see the Airline Earning Table for details;
(b) (infant fares do not include infants travelling in their own paid seat);
(c) charter flights;
(d) freighter flights;
(e) free tickets or Qantas & Partner Classic Awards;
(f) travel industry rebated tickets;
(g) competition prize tickets;
(h) tickets acquired at an auction; or
(i) tickets which are subject to any specific provisions excluding the accumulation of Points.
</SNIP>

In reading where Qantas allows FF points earning if one should "purchase extra seat/s for personal comfort", therefore i'd assume additional SC earning from the second fare is also a yes?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Re: > 1 paid seat/fare per pax earns > 1 lot of QF SCs and FF points?

I have two trips coming up in June with 'comfort seats' and will report back then, but I understand them to give a doubling of SC and points.

Check the thread above, you have to book over the phone, you can’t book two seats in the same name, that’s not a comfort seat ;)

Re: Buying Two Y Seats Rather a single J Seat

i was told over the phone today, extra child "comfort" seats are sold at the same price as adult.. ie no discount on the extra seats for child

no matter as i am looking to link extra seats destined for my children to my QFF.

So if you have the Double SC promo and your flights qualify, you should get 4x SCs for those flights.

Now that would be a super SC Run. I could imagine 2x JASA for MEL-BNE-TSV earning 240SCs (standard) + 240SCs (comfort) + 480SCs (double) = 960SCs all for one trip!

Ah how I dare to dream :lol:

Just some quick info on this, as I had recently just tried to do this days ago, on the Hobart express run, to try and get 720(or 800 SCs if going via sydney both ways) in one run! I had PM'ed RedRoo on this last week as to whether this(JASA with a comfort seat AND double SC promotion earning result of 4x SC) was doable, and RR had confirmed it was so over the weekend, I tried to book a JASA with an extra comfort seat on the hobart express. As comfort seats aren't doable online(partly because the comfort seat isn't liable for taxes, etc), I called in to the premium helpdesk just past Sat midnight to do it, as I knew it was going to be a slightly complicated request, with it being an ASA with AND a comfort seat, so I didn't want to hold up other users with a long discussion during peak time. Once i had explained exactly what I was trying to do, the lady I spoke to was very helpful(while slightly incredulous as to my wheelings and dealings to try and get 4x the SCs on one flight) and tried to accomodate what I was trying to get. After multiple episodes of being on hold, discussions with supervisors, after an hour, it was concluded they couldn't do it over the phone using their existing sytems ie. book a JASA with a comfort seat. Part of the discussion was I was told that J seats armrest don't go up, so can't really use the seat as a "comfort" seat, but after I explained I was just after the extra SCs without have to do the flight again, it was understood. They said I could try and book it online, just booking two seats in the same name, and I could try and get the taxes for the second seat refunded. I did just this right after the call(managed to put my name for both passengers and ff number, but had to put relationship for second seat as "son", as couldn't put "self" twice"). After I had done this, I PM'ed RedRoo to try and see if I could get some help with getting the taxes refunded, which must have kicked off a sequence of events as RR must have tried to do this for me, and ran up against some hurdles...

Got a call on Monday from a Qantas rep, apologising and said that the initial information I had received from RedRoo was incorrect and I couldn't actually book a comfort seat as an ASA, and offered me several options to try and help me out to make up for it. I have to say, at this point, the QF rep was very professional and IMHO, provided real customer service I appreciated to try and accomodate my requirements. I also got a PM from RedRoo apologising for the mistake, to which I replied that was fine, mistakes and miscommunications happen all the time, but what was more important was how these mistakes were resolved, and in this respect, I have been more than happy with their response.

I'll post an update after I've taken my flights to see if its actually worked as was described to me, as the option I was given does still seem a bit out of ordinary operations, so might be harder to carry out fully without any manual following up for points, SCs, etc...

Ironically on the HBA express route your seat will more than likely be the lift up armrest type.

As above, I wouldn’t have thought a comfort seat was bookable with points. If anything, you’d be able to book the JASA and then pay for the extra business seat, minus taxes, but not with points (with cash). Probably not good value that way.

The DSC offer applied whoever was targeted, but I’m not sure if they’d consider an extra seat to not be you, and thus you’d earn 3x the SC, not 4. Either way, it’s perfectly worth trying in economy with a regular booking, simply not paying taxes for the second seat, but I couldn’t see a way the system would allow a JASA with comfort seat paid with points. Easier just to travel the route twice I think.

Ironically on the HBA express route your seat will more than likely be the lift up armrest type.

Was going to say you could have a 734.
