Scams like these

I have had on my mobile phone a call with a 7070xx_x with 088 in front, so its an Adelaide phone number, online says its one of those car accident help line scams.

One of the hassles of web mail (or related)?

Got this one today to my business email:

A Wire was sent to your organization and will be credited to your designated financial account(s).

Navigate here to Confirm Wire Receipt 06.09.17.pdf

Needless to say, put firmly into Spam folder and didn't click.

Was having a meeting, discussing our insurances with our account manager, and he tells me that his wife fell hook, line and sinker for a scam.

Story is his wife received a phone and was told that her husband (who Ive been dealing with for years) was currently being held under an arrest warrant in regards to an ATO fine and she was instructed that she needed to purchase $800 in iTunes cards to have him released.

And. She. Did. It!

Apparently they had scanned/taken over his phone so she was unable to call him on his mobile and they knew a lot of private info about them. That afternoon they got new phones/numbers.

Im still stunned. Considering he was telling both me and my CFO, its not something you would joke about, knowing afterwards we were debriefing and thinking WTF, this is our corporate account manager so if he was joking, hes risking our account.

I asked him didnt the iTune card trigger it was BS, he said she panicked and just gave them credit card numbers to buy the itunes cards.

Crazy.

Home phone got robocalled by a woman in a Australian Accent informing me that I had won $999 in a QANTAS voucher and to press 1 to confirm my details.

Unusual number:

I also received this but hung up before the press 1 bit. There was no way this call would be genuine.

Received a call (fr. 02 6152 8623) this week from an aggressive male voice demanding to know my identity. Needless to say he received the Arkell vs. Pressdram response.

Got this email and if it wasn't for the fact that we only set up Office 365 a year ago, plus the unusual email addressee and hovering over the link to click being suss, I might have fallen for it. Referred to my IT guy instead who confirmed spam:

Has anyone been getting automated surveys on their phone lately. I've had a couple recently but I can't remember the subject. I probably hung up before the initial explanation finished.

I have ........my reply has been the standard one. "Hello this is the Melbourne Morge" 80% have apologized and hung up. Some have repeated themselves up to three times after not listening. Especially when asking if they have a body they would like to refer to the central repository. Surprisingly iI never hear from them again.
