Brazen aren't they?
Its either a spoofed Aust mobile phone number, or people are buying phone numbers too easily, or are mobile phone numbers now easier to get hold of, without id.

Surely Qantas has now earned the right to be entered on this forum as being a SCAM. QF widely and actively promote (currently with TV ads on repeat) and sell flights and associated products, take the passengers' money promising they hopefully, or at least eventually, will get you to within the vicinity of where you booked and paid to go, even if it is a day or three later then you planned. If they cannot achieve that they just cancel and as they have your money they do not really give a rats what you do next. Then try and rebook or request a refund when there system is set up to make that difficult if not impossible. The Alan Joyce model of how (not) to operate an airline. Apparently the ACCC considers this SCAM acceptable. Where is the passenger Bill of Rights ?

Re your reply CMA222, no, QF/QFF will never admit it... that they are "that".
Lots of ways I have been let down by them, and I won't use the word "s***" as such, but will say that they have a lot of failings, and it will take a very big huge task/tasks to repair the damage.
Closing service desks, taking away printing of BP from airport kiosks, making customers do their own check in, minimum service (their excuse is its due to covid), ...
AFF might not take it too kindly either, us/we calling QF/QFF that word.
Maybe not a "s***" but they have a lot of tricks up their sleeves, and for all this, they are using covid as a major excuse for a lot things that are not doing.
Look at it as money hungry, happily take, but won't spend.

Of course SCAM was used tongue-in-cheek as QF are a legitimate operating business. Its just the interaction (or lack of interaction) and their attitude and lack of a solution to their customers issues that is the issue when they are widely promoting services they know they cannot provide ! What is that - misleading and deceptive conduct ?

Hmmmm

What’s her definition of “a reasonable amount “?

I have a shell and empty account William can transfer funds to. ;)

My wife received an SMS at about 0700 today telling her that she had to sign into her MyGov account immediately or else it would be closed. The message also had 'helpful' sign-on link attached. She has blocked the number now.

I wonder if governments spent half of the money they splurge on chasing down the electronic records of journalists who embarrass them but instead on chasing down and blocking scammers things would improve.

Well the outgoing government pledged $1.67Bn in the 2021 budget for increased cyber-security - pretty sure they didn't spend an equivalent amount chasing reporters.

It’s a spoofed AU number, the dodgy call-centres have been doing that for at least the last 10 years … could be more!

Blocking the number is unlikely to make much difference, they use a random number these days.

I know that the number is unlikely to be used to contact us again but it is the only small thing we can do - apart from ignoring the message of course.

My comment was not targeted at any particular side of politics. In my opinion both sides of politics are more than happy to chase down unflattering leaks rather than spend the money on other more important activities. Sure I used a bit of hyperbole but in my mind no more than politicians use when they have been upset by a leak that embarrasses them but does not have any effect of National security.

Doing anything legislatively which might affect scammers in any way is almost definitely going to have a worse & more all-encompassing effect on the rest of us, unfortunately. Anything they might be able to do would embiggen the current privacy issues, by a fair whack.

I am sooooo frustrated by scammers/vermin/expletives who do this.
A less than $10 scam transaction to a credit card recently between moving from last home to current has been appalling waste of my time and sanity.
That card was used for bill paying (not connected to any bank account we have and could afford the loss if it was scammed) but… of course all my telco payments etc (‘paid’ that day) were reversed /power and gas suppliers from old address (that I did not even think about ) sent red letters once mail forwarded to new address etc etc.
I have never even paid a bill late /pay my credit card as I go to keep zero balance and now I am getting letters about debt collection???.
So p—ssed. !!luckily I wont be applying for any loans/credit etc etc in future as I am sure this stuff shows up.
I ended up putting $500 credit into all the major service suppliers to keep in credit (using chat functions also for all of them to explain and attached my banks confirmation of the fraud) as too exhausted with move etc to deal with overdue accounts/non payments.
All up took about 6 weeks of time till all sorted

Recently…
Got a lovely ‘ written’ letter from the bank telling me I wont be liable for the $7.69 skype call from Luxembourg at conclusion.
Maybe I’ll frame it for the new study!!!
Rant.Over
I thankyou for allowing it
