Scams like these

Does anyone know if I call someone that has blocked my number do I get a different tone or does it go straight to voicemail or just ring out
I can only tell you, from my experience of receiving calls.
On my 2 phones, with blocked numbers, the phones won't ring, but they will show "notifications", ie, they will still waste my time in the day, as I still have to waste my break/loo break at work, to see what the pling was, as in missed call/sms.
The fact that the phone does not ring, is a good thing with blocked numbers.
Maybe if I turn notification off, it might not make a noise.
But in the end, the call still gets through.
Unless spoofing or "private/unknown" numbers are made an impossibility by all the phone manufacturers, its hard to stop those spammers/scammers/fake/wannabee FBI/ATO/AFP "agents" in India.

Apple or Android?

Blocked numbers don't seem to ever come back on my iPhone, no notification, etc - (unless the scammers are only making one attempt to pester me on that number??)

Weird one received at 1.27am this morning.
It had "afterpay" as sender, and no number with that.
It was a one time verification code, like the one that QFF uses if you try to log into your account.
Had not applied for afterpay, and their website says not to worry, as they have strong systems in place to prevent fraud.
So somehow, some one or some group has been able to hijack the afterpay name.
Maybe they have gotten as far as my name and mobile phone number, as I do buy from ebay and others.
So, deleted the sms, and left it at that, in it too, was an afterpay "website" which I didn't open.
Just went to see the full sms.

This one is scary.
My dad who uses icloud, I think he got the full notice as well, but he does not want to pay, so has gone back to yahoo mail.
Icloud he used to do it for saving pixs.
As apple wants an annual fee, so when the icloud message comes in, it could also be kosher (?), and we have to hover over sender to see if its real or not.
I guess the only way is log into your apple account and check there, with the padlock sign, and not follow the link in the sms/email.
(Aud$99.99 per 1 year, I think).
Edit: the kosher icloud only bills monthly, I think my dad paid an annual sum, so just maybe (he didn't consult me), maybe he saved his details onto an iffy site.

Someone claiming to be from Telstra called me today, from a number in Wagga.
Does Telstra have a call centre in Wagga?
I doubt Telstra has a call centre in Wagga.
She was telling me about an upgrade to internet access which wouldn’t cost me any more than I was currently paying … it occurred to me that the state of the telecommunications industry is pretty dire when the spiel from a scammer is 100% identical to a real telecomms industry marketing spiel.

I think you meant to say 02 61 & 02 62?

'Cos ACT has the same 02 area-code as NSW.
Oh, man! I’m not the only one getting old. Well spotted.

Mind you, I disconnected my home phone a while back. We only had one legitimate caller using it and once she passed beyond the phone system we just pulled the plug entirely.

^ Good choice!
We actually have a landline, allegedly … it came with the internet connection … there’s an RJ12 socket in the back of the modem, no idea what the number is. :)
