Scams like these

I also got caught. We were just home from the US and had used Fedex to send some stuff home.Got an email from Fedex headed-missing parcel. So opened it.Fortunately it was at work.Computer went crazy but their IT guy was able to quarantine the malware and restore everything.

Last night I got one from Qantas-but the heading had a wrong FF number so it got deleted.

The ultimate scam:

I work out of home, around quite a bit.

Twice in the last ten days while I was home, located about 5 feet from front door (open behind security door), with clear sight of anyone approaching etc - Aust Post left a "we called but you weren't home - come pick up the parcel..." card.

Must be the ultimate scam.

Both times I had gone to check the mail box a few minutes earlier as postie normally arrives by a set time. Both times I heard the mail being shoved in the box but postie out of sight (around corner) before I walked out to get it.

NOT HAPPY JAN!

Hmm yes I reckon this is definitely prevalent across the courier business

As a contractor it must be easier to dump a card and run to the next destination than to spend time taking the delivery.

Has happened to me multiple times. Really annoying. PITA to go to a Post Office.

My mate had the same issue and when he queried them they alleged the courier ran the door bell twice and knocked with no answer. My mate then showed them the video from his surveillance cameras and the courier walked up to the letter box and left the card, never even went to the door

Received an email today from a known email address (friend). What made me auspicious was how impersonal the email was, no g'day Buzz, how ya goin'. Nothing. There was a link to an article "I think you might be interested in". I deleted the email and rang my friend. Picked up some virus that sent a message to everybody in his address book. Be cautious even when you receive something from someone you know.

Reportedly another round of the ransomeware stuff hidden in an email advertising a free upgrade to Windows10.

Windows doesn't send emails - instead they installed a little icon in the bottom right of most Win7 and Win8 installations.

Use this.

It seems one of the Auspost contract courier owners is running his own scam.

Mr Singh allegedly heads a syndicate bringing students to Australia on the pretence of doing courses at a government-subsidised education college in Melbourne's north. The students are often promised a working visa or permanent residency at the end of their education course.

However, the education is often not delivered, and the students are sub-contracted to Australia Post where they work at sub-award wages, sorting and delivering packages.

The revelations are acutely embarrassing for Australia Post and its owner, the federal government. Each has been effectively funding Mr Singh's operations - Australia Post through contracts with his labour hire companies, and the federal government through millions of dollars in student fee subsidies to his college, St Stephens Institute in Reservoir.

I got the same thing yesterday. There was a link in the email to some mobile phone plan company in the UK (or so the link indicated). Googling the company/link turned up nothing.

I feel I should bid farewell to AFF. I've been promised a prize of $10 million as I've won a lottery. Who knew - and I didn't even buy a ticket. So with that sort of money I can just blow heaps of $$ on flights and won't need to call on the resources of the honourable members......

My wife has been getting calls in the middle of the night for months - previously my wife blocked the number then used DND. She researched the number - someone in Uganda

There is a God.

Really, there must be, as apparently I've been identified as due some money as compensation for being scammed.

The email received a few seconds ago....

I did not realise I was that rich.

How could I not have missed USD 950,000 THOUSAND?

After all, I would have thought that losing USD 950 million could not happen without me noticing it?

I've had several of these recently from a +226 number, the phone rings several times then stops. Country code appears to be for Burkino Faso in West Africa.

Has Viber been mentioned in this thread? I keep getting messages from random numbers, but never open them. Apparently I won an iPhone 6 -
