I have just had my 4th email from Warren Buffett.Aparently if I email him my bank account details I am guaranteed to make lots of money. An here was I thinking all I had to have done was buy his shares in 1974 and have kept them until now.

Seem to have confused a number of people who think they work for paypal and want to ensure that my plastic details are added to my "account". In this case spoof at paypal dot com receives a copy of their efforts.

Happy wandering

Fred

Had the "your computer has a virus" from India on the weekend, answered with a slightly sarcastic "OH YEAH"... I could hear by her subtle breathing she realised I knew the deal and hanged up.

I often reply to these scams that the caller has a problem - I don't have a computer. (not true of course, but the call is terminated by them very quickly)

You could be like my wife who doesn't own a computer. We have at least 7 computers in the house, but I own them all.

Just watched Adam Hill's last leg on the ABC where he mentioned this highly imaginative email.

“Dear Mr. Sir,

REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE-STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL
I am Dr. Bakare Tunde, the cousin of Nigerian Astronaut, Air Force Major Abacha Tunde. He was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6 space station in 1979. He was on a later Soviet spaceflight, Soyuz T-16Z to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989. He was stranded there in 1990 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. His other Soviet crew members returned to earth on the Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by return cargo. There have been occasional Progrez supply flights to keep him going since that time. He is in good humor, but wants to come home.
In the 14-years since he has been on the station, he has accumulated flight pay and interest amounting to almost $ 15,000,000 American Dollars. This is held in a trust at the Lagos National Savings and Trust Association. If we can obtain access to this money, we can place a down payment with the Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will cost $ 3,000,000 American Dollars. In order to access the his trust fund we need your assistance."

Worth giving them a dollar or two for being so creative I would have thought! :)

That is the funniest, most elaborate scam I've read in a while.

I'd be more worried about their ability to get the poor major back. He was stranded in space in 1990, that was 26 years ago, not 14. Can we be sure that they really need $3m to open the trust? Have they added up the value of the trust properly?

Besides, it serves him right for taking secret space flights.

I love secrets and space flights too :D :D

I wonder if he can claim EU 261/2004 compensation?

You should send that question back to Adam Hills, Perhaps suggest he reply and ask if the Major has submitted a claim under EU261/2004. Assuming the show is relatively current in australia.

Good idea, the show was broadcasted in the UK a few days ago.

Was on ipod so couldn't check (hover over the sender to see who the domain really belonged to), but did any Accor hotel members get an email earlier on today, supposedly about a 10 min online survey?
It was my first, I thought it was legit, but then saw "Dear Sir Madam"...!
I didn't open the LINK.
Must be a scam to start with Dear Sir Madam.
Just that I am a recent migrant from IHG Rewards to LeClubAccor.
Ta.
