Someone in our office was waiting for a parcel, so they bit without thinking. Luckily our antivirus was ready for it and saved the day. We had a similar incident a year or two ago where a director opened a purported DHL attachment and infected his PC, part of our network and wreaked havoc in his Dropbox folders! Took 2 days of solid effort to clean up.

Alert has been issued for malware that can hijack banking apps.

Millions of customers of Australia's largest banks are the target of a sophisticated Android attack which steals banking details and thwarts two-factor authentication security.
Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, National Australia Bank and ANZ Bank customers are all at risk from the malware which hides on infected devices waiting until users open legitimate banking apps. The malware then superimposes a fake login screen over the top in order to capture usernames and passwords.

Only if you download a dodgy "Flash Player" app from a third-party site and turnoff app protections.

Unlikely to catch many out

Love how it is an android issue but the TV reports tonight showed an iphone. Clearly not well researched.

"myGov" seems to think
"you are eligible to receive a tax return"

Alas the sender (myGov) address starts with "yackypup"

I suspect that the html attachment is not html

Happy wandering

No problem drron, just send me your English bank account info.
Of course I am still chuckling about the Nigerian Government having over 20,000 phantom employees.
Maybe Australia should check some of ours.

Surely someone would have noticed all those extra Grey Ghost dogs hanging about?

Notification today from my bank:

[h=1]WARNING! Mobile App malware[/h] There have been recent Australian media reports of malicious software being used to steal banking details from Android mobile phones. The malware is designed to mimic the login screens of mobile banking apps, and typically arrives as a link in an SMS or MMS message. Members are advised to:

  • only install legitimate apps from the applicable app stores
  • never open attachments, click on links or install apps (or software updates) from links in text messages, social media posts, web pages or emails; and
  • Be wary of free downloads or links which claim to provide access to websites, footage or other online information

Two identical emails this am. Different signatories, no company name, each with an attachment that will remain unopened. Do people really fall for this cough?

Dear xx_xx_,

Our finance department has processed your payment, unfortunately it has been declined.

Please, double check the information provided in the invoice (attached to this mail) and confirm your details.

Thank you for understanding.

Spam email with heading of "Funds have been deposited into your account".

Open email and inside in bold "Underground money system (make over $10K per week)" followed by "Free money system. Make up to $1,000,000 in 90 days!!" and a YouTube video "Top Secret video that wealthy people don't want you to see!".

I really don't understand the angle but alarm bells ring through my head when I see these emails. Please don't tell me people fall for this approach?
