Even lifted the ATO crest and put it at the bottom as well. Of course, the many errors in fact as well as being safe in the knowledge my refunds are waaay in excess of this, so knew it was bogus. Then the nail in the coffin was the email address: Australian Taxation Office <[email protected]

No Namibians are going to get my hard earned by me opening up a zip file :D

A woman was duped into paying a ATO 'debt' with 7k of itunes gift cards.

A 52-year-old from Golden Bay reported to Consumer Protection on May 6 that she had bought more than $7000 worth of iTunes cards from a Woolworths store ($3000 on credit card and the rest with cash) to pay off a tax debt and avoid arrest.
It started after she responded in panic to an answering phone message on her landline that she thought was from the ATO.
A subsequent mobile phone call lasted four hours and the scammer claimed the woman was being monitored, that her bank accounts would be seized and she would be taken into custody if she did not cooperate.
Mr Hillyard said anyone truly from the ATO would not behave in this manner.
“If you receive an urgent, aggressive call threatening arrest or legal action over a tax debt, do not be afraid, it is not really the ATO,” he said.
“Scammers may call multiple times or leave voicemail or answering phone messages.
“Our advice if you get a call like this is to put the phone down.”
Mr Hillyard said if residents speak with scammers, they enable them to obtain information to help them target you further.

I think you should have asked for the refund in INR

I got a phone call at lunchtime the other day. When I picked up, there was a background noise as if a call centre. A subcontinental voice announced that it was Adam calling from Telstra about my computer connections. I told him that he had a big problem and needed to consult a medical practitioner as I didn't have a computer. He hung up!

We get the scam phone call every day on line 3 which is a 'hidden' number. Always ask for MrP but adding an S on his name. One of the secretaries plays with them. Leads them on. They end up always hanging up in frustration. Its our daily laugh.

I would like to think the last 3 letters from the ATO were scams. They want the same amounts but more frequently paid.
I do enjoy my emails from Svetlana though.

..and she enjoys sending them to you too!

Do all voice scams come from a (weather) hot country in Asia with an I as the first alphabet in its name?

I've had that email in the past. Shame the ATO had emailed the day before to demand payment of a debt. It seemed to cancel out so I ignored them.

Had a call over the weekend about NBN services on my Telstra line. Kept explaining that it would have to be a good offer to beat my police force discount :)

Must be the same woman calling me. After the police styled answers she started calling me Mr Policeman when she said I would be cut-off. Next time I am going to revert to "Hey, you have a sexy voice" routine. ;)
Maybe start answering the phone "Herods' House of Ssssin"
