Scams like these

Someone is using my name to order Apple products and Lufthansa tickets. Or so you believe going by my emails.

Plus every major bank in the world has had problems and requires me to log in using their link to reset my password.

The sad part is that people who do respond are allowed to walk among us.

I have a theory that there are some people who, having received an email , have this compulsion to click on a link, open an attachment or blindly furnish private details all in the naive belief that everything's up front.

Looks like I have a parcel that went missing:

I got an email at work the other day from reception@<my work domain> stating it was a scan of a document. Now we scan to email a heap of things so potentially legit. The trouble is we don't use reception@... and it was a .rar file. So my spidey senses tingled and I got the IT dept involved. They were a bit relaxed when I first contacted them, but half way through the second day they were very glad I hadn't opened the file. Seems it slipped though our (rather robust) filters. It was also passed onto Sophos/Norton/someone to update their database.

Could have locked up a number of systems.

Pays to be careful if something doesn't look 'just right'.

PS: I'm a postal worker!

With any email you receive that requires you to 'click here' or "enter your xx_X details to confirm" - a quick search for a contact phone number or real email address is the way to go.

An article from some US paper in 2011 quoted an estimate that close to 100x as many fake emails requiring information were sent out each day as legitimate emails.

That was in 2011 - and it has only got worse since then.

With those odds 100 to 1 against - a search is always the correct response NEVER a 'click'

Interestingly the spelling and grammar has improved, but the "undisclosed recipients" has to be improved! No logo on the e:mail and certainly will not be looking at the attached file!

This one is a first for me - from the "RBA Fraud Prevention Team" - Reserve Bank of Australia: recommendations for the online users

But with an email address of pajjinecka @holis.co.il I don't think I will be opening it !

These are all going to yahoo mail right? They seem to have the weakest spam filtering out of the three of my hotmail, gmail and yahoo addresses.
