Scams like these

I do love a good 419 scam, and definitely lost a few weeks of my life when I discovered scambaiting websites like 419 Eater - The largest scambaiting community on the planet! back in the day. If you haven't seen it, the letters archive is a great starting place, and things like the road to the skeleton coast, the incredible shrinking artwork and tales of the holy cow still get me in stitches.

Anyway, I had a nice 419 letter today that brought all of this back and tickled me a little. Good old Patrick has seen that I've been sending money to fraudsters and wants to stop me from getting ripped off...

I had a missed call from +225 which is the country code for the Ivory Coast in Africa.
I do not know anyone in that region of the world, and am too cowardice to answer that call.
If you have an incoming phone call, be careful before running to pick it up.
They are also cunning in the sense they can also use Private Number.
So, play the fool if you want, but don't give your name when you pick up.
In my greeting, mine is ((thank you for calling Alphaxx_xx_x1, please leave your name and number...)).
True, that genuine calls can also come from a Private Number, but better to assume its a scam before answering.

I'd normally do that but with multiple house 'moves' etc I can't do that right now.

But have had two calls now from UK and two from Brisbane that have been total junk calls. One admitted they bought the mobile list from another source that goes back 15 years.

Do the same for the home phone, whereas work and mobile have calling number displayed (although calls from my parents and wife are both "private numbers"). My mobile will give me a name and/or photo if in address book. I had one person yesterday ring me but didn't leave a message on my mobile. They rang back 4 hours later, asking if I'd received their call. Yes, I'd received a call from a mobile number, but as I explained I do not respond to unknown numbers because of spam calls - leave a message and then I'll know whether I need to call you back. Aaah, he said...at least the penny dropped

Re the +225 the person didnt leave a message so I dont know if it was Steady or not. Probably it wouldnt have been.
Now if I had a Scambaiter verve, I might have used an extra (toy along) sim to call them back.
