Missed call on my mobile today from +211 955 100 801. Looked up +211 ...... Senegal! This is my first mobile scam from OS and hopefully my last.

Another call from this mob again today! Is there any app that will divert the call to .....somewhere like scamwatch!

Funny I've ended up on some Indian lists in the last three days.
Bunch of Random Aussie VOIP numbers from regional NSW, Qld, WA etc. Usual 2-3 second delay and a few hangups and then a few connections to people who barely spoke English.
Such an amateur operation that I can't imagine they get many hits

Been hitting quite a few people as well based on the number lookup site for a few
https://www.numberlookup.com.au/number/0247574770

Also got my first Spam SMS in a while

(FreeMsg) Join Appstate for unlimited access! reply OK now. 3 x $5.00/wk (+$5 join), 25c/msg sent. Help? 1300068419. Stop? SMS STOP to 19999436. Submit Media

Who the hell would respond to that - $15/wk and no clue what it even is?? In any event I can't sign up to Premium SMS with my mobile provider

Had a call today. Number indicated as 01245087469 which is unlike any Australian number I have ever encountered. Guy had what seemed to be a sub continent accent and from what I could understand, he was calling about my car accident. It seems this accident happened last year. I thought I might as well have some fun.

Some of the exchanges over the next 5 minutes or so that I can remember:

Voice: So you were in the right?
Me: Of course the other driver should not have stopped in front of me.
Voice: And you were injured?
Me: Only my knuckles when I punched him.
Voice: And did you go to the hospital?
Me: No. I was arrested and had to go to the police station.
Voice: <garbled .... hospital>
Me Are you the police? You already arrested me for this.
then some other stuff to and fro - total time > 5 mins then <click .. busy tone>

I got a txt today from 'nbn' asking me "How has your nbn been lately?" with a link to click.

Considering the town I live in does not have nbn I think I will ignore this one. And I won't be validating my phone number by texting 'STOP' to the number they have given.

Edit: I may have got this before, but I checked the number: http://www.reverseaustralia.com/lookup/0421268776/

My sister in law got the original bill to pay by email. Only two issues are she isn't with origin firstly, but secondly she is in WA, which I don't think origin is operating in yet.

Been getting a number of spams from "banks" including one that was REALLY well done (NAB).

A reminder that some of the banks have reporting emails (just forward the spam to them).

eg. spoof AT nab.com.au or hoax AT wespac.com.au (obviously replace AT with @)

NAB Member survey email, and if you hover over the sender on a laptop, its not NAB as the bona fide sender.
Not to mention Prudent Finance sms scam.
And no to mention the Hello, hello, can you hear me scam.
Not to mention the Indian virus with your computer scam.
Not to mention the helping you with computer scam.
Not to mention the fake AFP email, which of course is, yes a scam.
Bill from a utility scam.
Had one for a relative, share trading from the UK, can't remember the name they provided, garbled voice on the other side, dead giveaway.
Not to mention the weight loss email scam, (replies@thelbw(.)net) scam, added this to spam in Yahoo, and the thing keeps coming.
The fake Qantas survey scam.
The Telstra bill scam.
Ad nauseum.
More funds for the AFP in fighting Cybercrime, indeed, but will this solve our scam problem.
Wait to be seen.

Seems like that one is a Vietnam one.
Sim Thang Long.
According to Wiki, 012 is used in Vietnam.
Malaysia also uses 012 as a mobile prefix.

One that was sitting in my junk folder this morning:

Don't let the fact that I have never heard of comcast (or concast, a nice play on words :D), or have authorised a payment on a Visa card that clearly isn't mine (none of mine have those last 4 digits) or want to click through to an .ru site. Sadly, there will be some that click through and get strung.

Had a call last week similar to your number 0124####...... can't remember the rest. Just didn't bother answering it.

With my call, I just wondered if they had entered one digit too many when composing their fake CLI number.

Very convincing phishing attempt puporting to be from Telstra bigpond, no really obvious spelling mistakes or errors in this one, they did a good job - the fonts and colours all seem to match Telstra email stuff, spoofed to look like the sender was <[email protected]>

I bet this one will catch some unsuspecting people out.

I had a similar one last week. It's biggest error was that I/we don't use Telstra or Bigpond for anything.

MOST alarming scam call ever - sufficient to get me to stop what I was doing.

Maybe not having had the breakfast cup of caffeine was an influence but this is a call that I suspect could catch better than 1 in 2.

So off to number lookup to see if it is legitimate...

Stern male computer generated voice (like CentreLink Robocalls played on the radio recently) stating the ATO has commenced court action against you and is in the process of issuing a criminal arrest warrant.

Would it have got your attention yet? All with perfect grammar/language.
It gets more intimidating as it goes. No name of who the call is for suggests it is a scam but for many - hearing of court action and arrest warrant can make you not think as clearly as you should.

Believe me there is a lot of communication from the ATO before they ever consider court action.
Plus all you have to do is sign up to My gov and link to ATO.That is how they contact you now.
