They can spoof any mobile or other phone number they want.
Dont know how, but its like how they say, they can also spoof their sms to come in the same line as genuine Auspost sms.
From a few days ago.

ASIC sues HSBC Australia alleging failures to adequately protect customers from scams. HSBC Bank Australia Limited (HSBC Australia) failed to adequately protect customers scammed out of millions of dollars, according to documents filed by ASIC in the Federal Court today

I am waiting for the banks to start blaming the telephone companies not to secure numbers and allow spoofing to be allowed.

Something stuck in my mind from the Virgin Money fraud department telephone scam the past few weeks. Sometimes it pays to listen carefully.

I had only received the card and had not yet activated and they want to discuss fraudulent transactions.

I asked him for the last 4 digits of the card to ensure that we were talking about the same card.

He did not know the last 4 digits and quoted the first 8 digits. That was a give away. The card has been replaced 3-4 times and the first 8 digits have remained constant.

Offering something free seems to now a very common way to get your details. This from Malwarebytes.

"This time, 5 million US credit cards and personal details were leaked online. The Leakd.com security team discovered that 5 terabytes of sensitive screenshots were exposed in a freely accessible Amazon S3 bucket.
An S3 bucket is like a virtual file folder in the cloud where you can store various types of data, such as text files, images, videos, and more. There is no limit to the amount of data you can store in an S3 bucket, and individual instances can be up to 5 TB in size.

The leaked information contains 5 terabytes of screenshots where victims filled out their details on websites that offered “free iPhones” and heavily discounted holiday gifts.
