Car decision made...

We're sitting at a cafe, a teeny tiny fiat drives past.

Me: That could be us, Honey! You, me, two large bags, my carry on, your back pack, our jackets and a box of drinks and snack... touring the Scottish highlands for three weeks in a Fiat!

Husband: Book. The. Jag!

On budget point, won't be paying for additional driver, sat nav and will request drop off / pick up. Saving $ with this.

In Manchester I was able to set off the hire car alarm while we were getting ready to leave the hire car location.
The drive to Scotland was easy and uneventful as it wasn’t snowing. I used the Argus trawler site and the deal was pretty good.

LOL. Sounds like saving marriage as well! ;)

What hotel would you suggest for Edinburgh?

Im looking at the Waldorf Astoria castle View room or the Sheraton castle view.

Main preference is a hotel with valet parking and a view (edit: we will be staying at Hilton Carlton/near the Royal Mile at the start of our trip).

Any suggestions? Its only for 2 nights at the end of our trip so the budget can be stretched.

Sheraton is good. Nice club lounge. Fair position. Castle view rooms and suites. Easy driving access to hotel. Valet.

Other than car hire price, whats the difference between a:

Jaguar XE 2.0 Portfolio, (cheapest hire price)
Jaguar XE S 3.0 V6 (within budget)
Jaguar XF 3.0 V6 D (same as V6 above and within budget)

Zoom, zoom, zoom. :)
Take the XE V6, I would, yes. XF is larger and heavier. V6 handles and drives the best. IMHO.

Those that hired via Avis Prestige before, can you/what loyalty program did you credit your hire to?

thanks,

Sent hubby a photo of this, saying "This could be us for only $34 per day!".

How exactly do they fit 5 people & 3 bags in this?

5 under 30's and three brief cases.

Had one of these out of Venice a few years ago (bloody Europcar would not honour Privilege upgrade!!). It turned out to be quite fun. Drove it into Austria and back to Italy in mild snow. Had to push it hard but was ok in the end.

Actually turned heads since the model had just been released!

We were in a Premium Castle View Room last year at the Waldorf. The view was great, the rest of the hotel was a bit disappointing service wise. The rooms were comfortable and large but a bit tired.

My wife ended up with a virus for a few days so having the castle view for NYE meant she didn't feel like she missed out at all.

These were taken from our room.

Last night hubby discovered the Avis site and is now talking about a Audi A6.

If he didnt take the kitchen sink every time we traveled, we wouldnt have as much luggage!

Hang it! Why not go for the Jag suv!

Thats also what he said!

If it comes down to less than 1500GPB (18 day hire) I would do it but I dont see that happening at all. Hoping the later I take to book the car, the price will drop to approx 1100-1200GBP.

Today I plan on getting back into planning and booking our Glasgow hotel at least.

Ah you don’t want to be seen in Scotland driving a “German” car. You need a good “British” one (owned by Indians :) ).
