Seat selection at T-80

This is exactly my situation and I do not buy that my PCV has dropped in the past couple of months.

What Y booking class(es) have you been recently travelling in?

It would be really useful if say for one flight we could get data on the seatmap and PCV of each passenger (and reasons why PCV is higher in some than others) etc, so we could get an idea of how issues like these are worked out... surely it wouldn't be too complex, but hey what are the chances of getting access to such information!

The same class I have always been travelling in! Still the same amount of domestic flights but let's not forget that airfares have gone up significantly in the past 12 minths. May have dropped 1 or 2 international flights in the past year but we are only talking about ~120 SCs.

And after all of that by the time my year is up in May 2012 I will have ~1600SCs-1700SCs which is the highest number I have had in a single year. And getting closer to Lifetime Gold as well....

Sorry if this is a dumb question. What is PCV? (It will probably come to me just after I hit 'Post Reply'!

I think PCV is perceived customer value taking into consideration status, fare class etc.

In terms of consistency of route and regularity of flying I'm similar to JohnK. So far this year my average cost per flight is about 10% less than the advertised based fare on my main route. My experiences in terms of seating is basically the same as in previous years. So maybe John's experiences are more related to the dynamics of his main route rather than anything about himself. ie his PCV is the same but the average PCV on SYD-BNE has increased.

I like my conspiracy theories better. I believe it is related to the introduction of Platinum One.

What do you think they will use when Platinum One and Chairmans Lounge are merged? Platinum?

Do you think Platinum will remain or merged with Gold?

Wouldn't you expect many members to be seeing similar changes then though? It doesn't sound like many are - I'm certainly not. I haven't flown a whole lot domestically recently, but on all those occasions I've had full cabin availability at T-80, including yesterday's MEL-SYD and this morning's SYD-MEL.

Also, to add a small datapoint supporting the fact that it might be PCV-based, I think my PCV must be quite high at the moment: I had a shadow on SYD-MEL this morning despite there being only two spare seats in the J cabin of the 738, and from what I understand a shadow is pretty unusual when the cabin is almost full.

Pretty sure I'm in the record in the massive goodbye ATA thread as saying platinum as we know it is dead. I think the qualification requirement will jump to 2400SC

I know this is going to sound harsh but I can only hope that is what is going to happen. I genuinely feel for the likes of Medhead, johnK, and MunitalP, but as long as QF continues the the great gold and platinum giveaway via double SC's something has to give.

Guys! Reality check!

If Qantas continues to handout double SCs like they are at the moment then Platinum status is not going to mean anything.

I know I sound like a broken record but Platinum status will not be that prestigious soon....

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the offer targeted, where as DJ's double status credit offers are for all?

From the posts in the thread it would appear that only one or two people missed on double SCs.

I very much agree. I would have much rathered have the platinum qualification increased, rather than suffer the current death of a thousand cuts.

I did not think so before but I would have to agree now.

Platinum at 2400SCs and gold at 1200Scs.

Take as many any seat award flights as you want to reach that mark and I would do away with the 4 Qantas flight minimum.

No point saying my discount economy flights SYD-BNE for the next 6 months are worth 10SCs each because I booked before April 1 while someone who wants to take advantage of this promotion books now and earns double.

Guess what though. In 6 months time I will still book Qantas....

Here I haven't seen double status offer - daughter and wife both NB did.
Haven't seen 73h row 4 or 5 window or aisle at T80 since November - I think it's the lifetime status as none of the people in them are more than WP, but they are all longtime WP...haven't seen an op-up for a long time either.
Got 23JK on 76H to Melb at T80 last weekend tho', so it is also who is on the plane...

I'm booked until end of June as well, so I hear what you're saying. But I'm working on some sort of ASA. Trouble will be getting leave from the family and finding the points, as with any luck I'm going to blow my current stash on J upgrades to and from LHR in May.

It would appear that way but not sure if this is the case. I posted that I was fortunate enough to receive it, but had I not received it I very much doubt I would have posted as such.

Even though I'm happily going to try and amass as many SC as possible over the coming months I do question the fairness of it all. In my family with 4 QFF I was the only one who got lucky. I travel a fair bit with 2 other colleagues, one who didn't get the offer, and it seems unfair that for the next few months 2 of us are getting double the credit of the other, just through some random computer selection. One unhappy chappie in our group.

SWMBO and I also missed out. Shame really, I'm almost at the point where I would start chasing status, I haven't bothered up to this point, because we travel business where available and are both lifetime QP, but sittting in the Business Lounge last month looking up at the First Lounge (Sydney) I was a bit envious after reading all the posts about how good it is.

This weekend's flights on a 738, I have a non status travelling partner on the same booking.
Prior to T80 could only select 7BC and DE (no adjacent aisle and centre on row 6 in both flights).
At T80 for the first flight, could not go any further. Not a single seat in row 4/5/6.
T80 for the return flight is tomorrow so I will check, but won't hold my breath.
I am booked in fare classes V and M respectively.
I've also put myself in the middle seat to see if there is a WP shadow?

Last weekend, my first dom flights as WP: on a 734 could select 6C/D prior to T80 and no problem with 4C/D at T80 with all seats in rows 4/5 available. Those ones were both booked in O class.
Go figure...
