Seat selection in new system?

I agree with awilcocksons decision. The "binding" agreement is etiquette. If someone asks for information they impart to you to be kept confidential, then it is good manners to do so.

It's also in the confidentiality statement at the bottom of the email :) I suggest that anyone who is concerned with this issue (and its a huge one if you ask me) contact Virgin and let them know that it is an important issue and a MASSIVE differentiator from QF.

Ah legally, I'd assume, that's still only a request as they've sent it to you, but haven't required your agreeance. It still comes back to a polite request to keep it confidential.

It's not the point!

The point is they need to fix it - or supply a public statement about what they will or won't do.

Might that not be a standard corporate rider attached to any email send from a corporate mail service.

In any case, I am perceiving they decided to go ahead with the basic stuff, and make these facilities one by one as as it beds down. In the meantime employ (on a temporary basis) additional telephone based CSA staff to handle the extra load.

Just booked annual family holiday to Fiji with VA
Both SWMBO and I are platinum, at seat selection only able to see row 16 and beyond and flight is wide open. Anyone noticing any differences with seat selection between domestic and short haul Int with the new system??

This is an acknowledged fault with the current system, which they are working on fixing. Best solution is to only put the plats FF numbers in the booking, select your seats, then add the FF numbers in for the non-plats after the booking is made.

Problem is they are both plats as per their post.

Just enter one frequent flyer number (obviously the hight tier member on the booking) and you get around the issue.

I have contacted Virgin specifically regarding this issue and they agree thats its an significant issues and that they will be fixing it... the problem is the 'to be fixed' list seems to be quite large.

I did a return MEL-HBA-MEL flight yesterday.
Turned up at the Lounge in MEL and the best the lounge angel could do was 7D. Fair enough.
She also checked me into my return flight and said the best she could do was 4A. I prefer an aisle so was happy to get 13C. I asked her politely to check again in the hope of getting row 3 and she was able to select 3C.
When onboard the return flight, there was an Italian couple next to me who had no status whatsoever (I sneaked a look at their BPs) and across the aisle there were three teenage kids, and I will presume they also had no status (yes, I know I am presuming). So why was it so hard to get 3C for me as a gold member?

Just checked in for Wednesday (seq 12). Allocated 4A, what aisle preference? Moved to 4D. 3B/E, 4B/D-F available. Current score: -1.5

Are you guys passing feedback to VA? I think they need to hear consistently that their FF's are unhappy about the end-result of seat selection.

As I have said multiple times, as a Plat I am happy with the new supposed seating allocation for each tier - but I am less then happy with the end-results on Planes based on all your reports.

I'm waiting for some indication that the new system is passed buggy start up phase before doing meaningful feedback. I might comment on the Facebook page for now.

I think it's well overdue that plats get first digs at the best seats.
I got the distinct impression I was the only status member on my flight last night. VERY lightly loaded 10pm from HBA with mainly families and older people and as I stupidly lost my BP, I had to line up for check-in to get another one. As there were no other VA flights for the night, they didn't open up check-in until 8.30pm and I was the only one in the priority boarding lane. And looking around at the cabin, it seemed I might have been the only status member. Long bow to draw I know, but it was just an inlking. I realise I am guessing here though. And yet it was like pulling teeth trying to get 3C.
I haven't given feedback as I probably won't requalify for gold again and only have a handful of flights scheduled until it expires.

I flew ADL-BNE recently. 10:10am flight and I'm a BIS Gold with 990SC (hit Plat on the flight back). Was allocated 3C but the best window seat available was 17A. When I boarded I turned around and a non-velocity friend of mine was in seat 4F!

So it seems to me that 3-6 inclusive are blocked out to everyone except Platinum until counter check in opens, and then the staff just allocate them on a first come, first served basis. I had a shadow in the seat next to me, but I think that was probably for the Plat in 3A rather than myself. I hope they sort this out quickly.

I thought I had posted earlier.

I was given boarding pass for 8C earlier today at check-in and asked for seat further forward and given boarding pass for 6C.

Boarded aircraft and 3D, 4C, 4DE, 5C and many other seats were available. I made a mistake and sat in 5C. No one bothered to change seats. I have a funny feeling that only 1 person in front of me had status. The rest looked like once a year flyers.

That just doesn't make any sense??? As a Plat you would think you would get at least one of those available seats??

Sorry I am only Gold but you would think I should been able to get one of those seats. There may have been a lot of late scratchings from the flight.
