Seat selection in new system?

Sorry I am only Gold but you would think I should been able to get one of those seats. There may have been a lot of late scratchings from the flight.

Agreed. In this case I would expect VA to offer you a better seat.

If it is any consolation, last week I did Sydney-Honolulu return in Jetstar Business Max. My selected seats there and back changed maybe 2 or 3 times each way. I would select what I wanted, it would be accepted, then some day or so later would be changed by the reservation system. This repeated a few times.

Makes one wonder why there is a seat selection process when what eventuates is not what selected.

This is an acknowledged fault with the current system, which they are working on fixing. Best solution is to only put the plats FF numbers in the booking, select your seats, then add the FF numbers in for the non-plats after the booking is made.
Thanks for the advise, first put the kids numbers in who are not plat and could only see row 16 onwards. Same happened with only mine and wife's (both platinum)numbers in booking. Maybe should just have gone with one plat FF number in booking as bullerdude suggests.
i made the reservation and now hope the Platinum desk can help.

And more issues:

Almost the entire Virgin frontpage is disabled by the Default config in AdBlockPlus (Firefox)

Managed to Change a seat selection (within 48 hrs of flight) using the online check-in...
This is not updated on the View Itinerary page on the main website.

Even when logging in to a return booking within 48hrs the system doesn't throw up the outgoing and return, you need to check in to each individually.

Altogether an entirely amateur hour implementation

Any particular reason why that should be?

I know AdBlockPlus is ruthless, but it doesn't just block any new site on the webs like that.

Rather silly if you have to whitelist Virgin Australia, especially since almost no other carrier's website around the world seems to be affected in the same way.

There's such a simple solution to this Row 3 - 6 problem.

Plats: Can select at anytime
Golds: Can select at OLCI
Everyone else: Can select at the airport.

On checking the code, all four main images plus almost all of the other minor images on the page ref to either:
http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net
http://adclick.g.doubleclick.net

I recognise those URLs somewhat, and I do know that some advertising does go through that (I think that's what ABP uses to "clean up" Google search pages). But why would Virgin Australia be page ref'ing those? Wouldn't it just have it's own in-house images hosted on its server?

Someone trying to make money on a few side-clicks?

VA is probably using a doubleclick/Google analytics product to track movement on their website.

Thanks for tip, moa999. I assumed the borked rendering was due to an incompatibility with Chrome and didn't bother to investigate further.

I agree with your comments about the logic vs implementation completely. But as 777 says - given the choice between incompetence and malicious intent - its usually incompetence.

:D ....yep betting on incompetence as well......

still a great way to annoy your FF.....

heres my seat report from a recent PER-DRW-PER.....on both legs at the airport best i could get was row 7......had a look at a lot of boarding passes of those seated in front of me.....not one had status....and judging by the leopard print neck pillows of a lot of others assuming they didnt either.......

as a general comment dont think i have ever seen more than a couple of status members on any VA flight ive taken........so here is to opening SG up to full seat selection at t-XX........shooting purely for QF WP is getting more enticing.....

That would be a good solution except this Gold cannot move beyond row 7 at OLCI so stopped using OLCI and leave seat selection for the airport.

That theory is not good either if I am given row 6 aisle at the airport when there are aisle seats available in row 3, 4 and 5.

Hmm now I've had my own poor experience.

MEL-DPS this weekend - 2 golds and 2 silvers on a migrated booking; can't select seats online so called the Velocity phone number

Entered my Velocity number; 20 minutes on hold and end up at the foreign call centre (what happened to priority line?) where all they want is the PNR and don't seem to be able to find the booking based on any of the Velocity numbers

Ask for seat selection - told that row 16 is available! I ask if anything further forward is available - told 2 of us can sit in row 15 :/

I tell the operator that there are 2 golds on the booking - seems surprised and says if he can trick the system he can get us into row 8. Another 10 minutes on hold and we've manged to get 2 golds and 2 silvers into row 8. Are they suggesting that there are 30 Plats and Golds already on the flight? Or am I going to get on the flight and see that, like people described above, rows 3-7 are filled with people who fly with VA once a year?

SG for me is domestic lounges, priority boarding and rows 3-4. I can pay for lounge membership and hang back to not need the boarding so I'm really wondering now if I'd be better off shopping around for flights, dropping back to silver and buying a lounge membership.

Sheesh!

My friend, those days are effectively over.

If you want those seats, you'd better try at online check-in, and hope that not many people have decided to similarly check in or have already selected those seats.

Are you referring to QF or VA domestic?

With VA domestic, there is currently no provision to move forward of row 7 with OLCI for an SG.

You need to get to the airport!

Oh well, so my statement was more optimistic than reality.

I would've thought that at least some time during OLCI (T-24 as it were) if there were spare seats in rows 3-4 (or 3-6 as it were) then a SG could get them. Sure, perhaps the middle seats will be the first to give way (much to the chagrin of any potential WPs seated in rows 3-4 who would prefer a shadow).

Truth be told, I've completely forgotten what it's like with QF SG as I haven't been there for years, plus the seating system has changed subtly since I was that status......

Yes gold members you have been demoted. You can no longer select a seat in rows 3-6. We have been pushed back to rows 7-10 on domestic flights. Not happy.

Did PER-DWN today

I was seated in row 3.

oh and the only person in all of row 3 and 4 and 5. Then all the rest squeezed in thereafter. Quite nice really - that was until a bunch of bogan friends from the back decided those rows might be a nice place to sit....

Hi manwithmyplan,

Welcome to AFF.

Do you have a better suggestion to distinguish between Platinum and Gold :?:
