Seat Selection Unavailable - J Fare

Hi AFF,

I have been having this problem the last few weeks - VA's online booking wont allow me to select a seat when booking a J fare, saying it is currently unavailable and seat will be assigned upon check-in. If i change to Y or S it lets me pick a seat though. Is anyone else getting this?

Just heard back from virgin on facebook; "Hi Marsden (Martin), we're sorry about this. We still offer pre-allocation of seats in the business cabin. Please send us a private message with your booking reference number and desired seat and we will try and assist."


I'd say it must just be an issue with their online booking? A bit annoying, but at least they have an interim fix i guess.
 
I have not been able to select a seat in J any time since new system. Having said that, I have only fown probably 8 -10 J Sectors

Its not something i regularly book either (this is one of 4 exceptions), but i usually use the map to see if Y-J upgrades are available on a flight.
 
With about 20 flights I have generally been able to select seating in business at the time of booking (although, earlier in the year, not on E90's).
 
Virgin have just advised that it should work and it might just me an issue with me (or an occasional issue).

This was an issue a few months back. Could select on some, unavailable on others..........even if on same PNR. Use the VFF rep on FB or here to get the selection. You can also do it through the GCC.
 
I still cannot select J seating online for a lot of my bookings. Failure last week on an E190 resolved via the call centre.
 
It used to be E190 problem, but lately I can't select my seat for J on any domestic flight.
 
Same thing happened to me several months ago when booking PER-LAX return via MEL in J. Could select seats for the international legs without any problem, but got the "Seat Selection unavailable - seats will be assigned on check-in" message for the PER-MEL and MEL-PER legs.
 
Happening to me constantly at the moment. (and I assume eveyone else) Have spoken to call centre staff who admit to being exasperated by the deficiencies of the VA website.
 
Just called to chane a saver to a J and spoke to onshore - 4 calls later got it changed but was told they could do seat selection. cooked dinner, and didnt think that was right; called back (purposley to offshore) who couldnt have been more helpful, and quick, and made me feel like WP. (ended the call with "thank you for being one of or loyal FF's Mr M"). I am starting to think it is more than a system issue; maybe they dont want J seat selection before checkin?
 
So besides serfty, who else has been able to select J seats upon purchase, and for which aircraft?
 
Havent flown for a few months but was always able to assign seating on all except for the E90s. Which seamed to have changed when the new seating layout was completed. I would just complete the first few steps of online checkin to allocate my seats then close the window, seats always seamed to stick so had never bothered with a call to velocity.
 
I will report to VA, as the dont think it is happening to many people.

No J for a few months now and my memory is not good enough to remember which I could and which I couldn't but I do recall a number of times being able to seat select in one direction, but not the other on the same PNR!

Same experience here for J seat selection on 73H, I received same screen shot as Serfty , there are four of us in J so do I need to make a phone call to allocate seats?

If it's like previous, then, Yes! Otherwise it's leave it until check-in and the best seats may well be gone!
