>>>> ADDED 30 Sept 2010 <<<<

Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

I'm trying to pick my seat for QF1 Jul 21st SIN to LHR leg but it keeps bombing out when I click on select seat saying seat map is unavailable and to call them. I'm QFF Gold so should be able to select a seat. Anyone knows why I can't select a seat on QF metal? I can't be bothered calling them.

Interesting, is the flight booked as a QF flight number or as BA flight number?

It's booked as QF1 and I can see it in my QFF profile. When I first booked it in May, I could select and change the seat to my heart's content. Only when I tried again it this week has it stopped letting me.

That sounds bizare, it is not a reconfigured aircraft and I tried making a test booking and can select seats without problem. I am afraid calling will be only option, or maybe at T-80 you can try again to change.

fyi, I called them and they have NFI why it doesn't work online either, but they can change it for me over the phone.

How accurate is EF?

I'm on QF127 on wednesday, The seat next to me is vacant in MMB, but on EF it is blocked. I'm a bit curious. (I have no status)

The flight is 'wide open':

F7 A7 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T7 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X2 E0

I would think they are blocking many seats to balance PAX loads through the cabin.

In such circumstance one is more likely to get a 'shadow'.

Noob question! :(
i have just been reading this thread, but can't work out the source site for this information. Is it freely available? Are you able to see seat selections for Jetstar flights?

Thank you.

Not for jetstar flights - for JQ the easest way is to go through a "dummy booking" yourself ans choose to select seats.

If you already have a JQ booking then it's easier.

Noob seating allocation codeshare question:
If I book a J/F multi city on CX with a leg on QF can I select a seat on the QF flight, either online using a QF booking ref or via the Platinum desk? Using a dummy booking on the CX website the QF flight is showing every seat allocated, looking at EF only 2 seats have been allocated so far. I have checked multiple dates and always the QF flight doesn't show any available seats on the CX site although I can definitely book it.

I believe if you can get the Qantas PNR for your booking, seat selection should be available online. (While CX now use Amadeas as does QF, there generally exist separate record locators un such cases.)

Like everything, YMMV and it may be as easy as calling qantas and requesting.

Just put in the CX PNR into the qantas site and it should be fine. All flights should show up. You will enable to select seats on QF. You might even Beale to select seats on CX but they might not actually stick....

You'll be able to use the CX PNR on virtually all airlines using Amadeus. In this case, use the QF site as already mentioned, and you should be able to choose seats for the QF flight, plus the first CX flight if it's the first sector. I think it's a bug that allows that, and in my experience, the selection sticks for that sector. Also note that, for the CX flights, you might need to call them up to have seats blocked being made available to you.

I know this is well ahead of time, but can anyone tell me what the load is in Y+ on VA7 BNE-LAX for 3 Feb 2013 and VA2 LAX-SYD for 1 Mar 2013 - when booking trip last week, OH was only able to select a seat in Row 14 of PE - all seats in every other PE row were blocked off. Would it just be that VA hasn't released those seats for selection yet or are both cabins full already (which would be surprising this far out)? The "change seats" button does come up on his reservation, but still only Row 14 available for selection.
Thanks for your help.

Oh sorry, I'm leaving out information, the qantas seat map shows me in 6D, so it detects me what is strange is that every other seat is showing as taken, except one seat - 22B now. That is extremely strange because I, as a WP, should be able to bump a NB or even a non-FF out of 23C before they check in, if I so choose. I agree that it is probably corrupted some how. Unless there really is a flight full of WPs and CLs going to ADL. ;)

I have once before seen what you say about not detecting me, but in that case I had plenty of seats to choose from row 8 rearwards. Anyway, I'll put it down to random weirdness.

If its a one off an understandable blimp. If it becomes a pattern ring the airline.

I have found WP1 and whole new ball game.
