Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

EDIT: Picked 12E - after searching, I liked serfty's comment of "middle seats are better as no-one needs to climb over or be climbed over."

You may want to read some of more more contemporary posts.

12A,12K,13A,13K > any E or F seat due to side storage.

It's not hard on the Mk2 skybeds to get past the aisle passenger.

Thanks, have been doing lots of reading over past hour. Unfortunately, none of the above are available (only 11A, 12E, 13F, 13J). And no window seats in main J cabin at all. Window sill over bin may be useful to place CPAP machine.

Just wondering how far out you can see Award seat availability? I'm looking at QF26 NRT-SYD on the 21st or 22nd of October 2016. Seems that in the weeks leading up to that (so far) there is 0 Business availability at all, understanding that School Holidays should have finished by then...

With Qantas award seats are available 353 days in advance.

I'm just wondering if there's any point in grovelling when I get to QC in LAX. ( would insert smiley but smiley pop-up is almost off screen and won't let me drag across).

I have QF 5 J on 16 March. Would someone be able to help with the appropriate seat plan please? I don't have EF and Seatguru is a tad confusing. I'm trying to work out the best for a solo seat.

3J/K, 4E/F, 5E/F, 6A/B, and 6J/K are the empty pairs showing up. These would be reasonable options at the moment as the seat next to them is empty for now. Rows 1 and 2 are coming up as blocked for me.

Thanks jpb. As an evening flight I may reluctantly take a centre aisle over my preferred window so that there is no climbing over to be done.

PS if you want to do a seat map search, expert flyer is 100% free. Either sign up or cough cough sign in with Facebook. With Qantas you can even enter your FF details and it will show a map appropriate to your status. Only thing is you cannot set alerts and it limits the number of searches per day, think about 10-15.

Thanks ajw. I find the QF seat maps always have so many variants of the aircraft, or am I doing something wrong. I'll have a look at EF, I didn't realise it was free. As I have very lowly status, there's not a lot of choice usually.

Will find myself in economy on QF127 (B744) SYD-HKG and QF118 (A333 refurbed) HKG-SYD in a few weeks' time and was hoping to get some advice on the better seats to select. I'm not really prepared to pay the $90 required for the extra legroom seats.

On the B744 how is 46A/K and 58A? These are at an exit row but don't cost extra. Apparently the emergency slide cover intrudes into your legroom? Is it very bad? As a solo traveller am I better off trying for the couple seats from rows 69-73 and hoping the adjacent seat remains vacant?

Is there any way to tell which B744 variant will be operating my flight, and does it make any difference when you're in economy?

On the A333 how is 45A/K? Is there a similar issue with the emergency slide cover?

These are the seats I can see so far having Gold status though others may open up later. If there are any other specific seats I should keep a lookout for please let me know.

It's a better seat than a regular economy seat, but you can't stretch your legs out fully in front, you need to angle them ever so slightly to do so. Not a problem if travelling with a companion, slightly more difficult if you have a stranger for a seat mate.

I thought the A and K exit rows on the B744 were quite restrictive as the emergency slide is quite intrusive - they get a "red" seat indication on seat guru. You can stretch out but on an angle - for 7-8 hours you might be seeing a chiropractor after the flight. I have not had the pleasure of sitting there, but seen others doing so and it didn't look great.

The A330 does not have the same intrusion from the emergency exit door.

I've travelled a number of times in both 58A on the B744 and 45A/K on the A333.

At 192cm tall, I find 58A is much much better than a standard economy seat, despite the intrusion of the slide. You can fully stretch out your right leg, and the same can be done with your left leg on a bit of an angle. Even on an overnight flight it is more than bearable, and of course you don't have to worry about clambering over your neighbour should you wish to get up.

Have always avoided 46A/K on the B744 as it looks like the slide protrudes even more than in row 58.

On the A333, 45A/K legroom is similar to 58A on the B744, although the slide protrusion is a bit lower.

Will always pick these seats before any other (unpaid) seats in the economy cabin!

Row 43 or row 60 bulkhead would be best on the 747. The window exit rows are fine. The cowling is slightly in the way but not enough to inconvenience greatly.

Row 23 aisle on the A333 would be desirable.
