Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

I and the rest of my family are on two different bookings on a LaTAM flight. I manage to preselect our seats and we are together 4 people. How likely is LaTAM to change preselected seats? I don't have any status with LaTAM. TIA

You should be ok, but it wouldn't hurt to ring LaTAM and ask them to link the bookings. It won't create a single PNR, but at least it will record you are travelling together.

BNE - LAX J seat selection

Hi all,
I have just secured a couple of J award seats to LAX out of BNE and need some advice on the best seat selection. I have never flown on the 747 in J so have no idea of whats good or bad seat wise apart from a quick look on seat guru.
I flew AA SYD - LAX last year in J and feel It will be a bit of a downgrade with the 747??

Im only Bronze so i can see that some of the seats are already unavailable to me but not taken yet. Im guessing they are reserved for top tier fliers but not 100% sure. Will these seat open up closure to departure ?

Thanks in advance:D

Re: BNE - LAX J seat selection

14 J and K upstairs are great. They are set a bit further back than the A , B seats so have a bit better window view and easier access to the side locker. The jump seats are in front but this is not a problem in flight and you can have a chat with the cabin crew during takeoff and landing.

Re: BNE - LAX J seat selection

Thanks for the reply's.

Current seating available to "me" below. I have 15 A&B at present and im hoping that the other grey seats might open up closer to departure which is a long way off ( Jan 18 ). not sure if i should grab row 3 A&B instead or just leave as is.

Re: BNE - LAX J seat selection

3AB are better seats... spacious cabin, high ceilings, private and quiet environment. The whole reason why just about every airline had their first class cabin there.

Upper deck... well... would you spend 14 hours in a 737 flying across the Pacific? that's essentially what you get with the upper deck. Lots of traffic to the front and back of the cabin (WCs and crew during service times), low ceilings, thin and flexible floor. There's a novelty of sitting 'up high', but I'm not sure that lasts longer than 5 minutes.

3EF in a heart beat. IMHO, they are the best seats for a couple on the aircraft!

Seat Allocation A332 International

I'm flying Qantas to Singapore in a few days time, and as a WP, pre-selected seat 24A several weeks ago (24B was also vacant at the time). I'm not sure if 24A is a reasonable Y seat, but that's another story.

When I checked the seat map a few days ago, I noticed that 24B was now occupied. A bit strange, I thought, as 24 J/K and virtually all aisle seats on the RHS were available. OK, so I decided to move across to 24K, as I really don't mind which side I'm on.

When I checked the seat map again today, I noticed that seat 24A was now also occupied, as were rows 25-30 A/B. It just seems a bit odd why people would want to squish themselves together in this way when virtually the whole of the RHS of Y class is available.

Perhaps it is auto seat allocation? Any thoughts?

Dunno, maybe its a group?

FWIW, I try to allocate 24B for red eyes and 23A for day flights.

The former as there more leg room for when I want to stretch out to sleep.

Be wary of 24J/K as these may or may not be bulkhead seats depending on the type of A330 being used & that can change during the life of the booking.

Thanks for that. How do you select 23A when it's shown as blocked (and 23B is a bassinet seat)?

Note that on the 330's 23D/E/F/G are bassinet seats.

Despite that, as a WP I often can with international flights.

Domestically, not until T-80.

Mrs sdhog and I are travelling QF63 SYD JNB in September. I have our J class seats confirmed (16A/B) but would like to change them to front cabin seats (16A/B implies a “F” front cabin) further to the comments on the forum (with thanks). When I open my booking, I do see the seat numbers allocated (16A/B) but not see a seat map, rather just a request to choose aisle/window seat. I phoned the Premium desk today and the operator thought it might be because I had old seats in the booking (from when 14J/K were the exit row seats) which she corrected. Unfortunately I hung up before checking, and the problem was not resolved. I then had a lengthy online chat with an operator who first said it was because my seats were confirmed (and asked if I wanted to cancel those seats) and then, when I pointed out that all other 10 paid for J class sectors I have in the next few months (including the MEL SYD flight attached to this SYD JNB booking) allow me, when going to “select a seat”, to see my allocated seat and a seat map, ascribed the problem to a “systems upgrade” which was ongoing (once again, obviously only affecting one of my eleven flights!) Any suggestions?

Is it possible all seats for pre-allocation have gone? Or at least the system thinks they have gone. You could call back and ask the agent if there are seats in rows 1-4 available, they'll be able to confirm for you.

Thanks. The first agent did check and said the seats in the first cabin were all blocked - that was pretty much the reason I wanted to check the seat map. I still cannot understand why I am being asked to put in an aisle/window preference even though I have confirmed seats, and why the seat map stubbornly won't appear, just for this one flight
