Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

hi

Sorry if the answer for this is already elsewhere on the site...

I have a QF63 & QF64, SYD - JNB - SYD in August, & am trying to find out whether the 747 being used in 3 class or 4, and therefore choose my seat. (I have done that but I like to check closer to the flight if there's better!)

I thought I'd seen that FlightAware or ExpertFlyer could tell you the expected rego number & that you could then see the config. I'm sure it's 3 class as the QF site doesn't show any prices for First on those flights.

I'm currently in 36 A & B (premium) on those flights & they look OK on SeatGuru.

thanks in anticipation!

The only 747 with the old 4 class is VH-OEB. (The other 4 class VH-OJM has been retired to the desert)
The rest are all 3 class.

OEB is the oldest bought 2nd hand from Asiana. Recent announcements from QF is that the retirement of the 747 fleet will begin in July and complete by end of 2020. Likely that OEB will be the first to go. In which case by the time of your flight it will be an all 3 class fleet.

The other way to determine whether yours is a 3/4 class is to look at your seat map in the qantas seat selection. In the 3 class there are no 5A seats and no Row 4 in the nose section

QF don’t sell F on the 747 (only OEB has first and is currently on a charter I believe), so you can’t use that to gauge the type of 747. As alluded to above, checking your seat map is the way to go

Can someone please assist with which version A380 is currently scheduled for SQ232 SYD-SIN on 25 December? I'm in economy and Seat Guru seat maps don't align with SQ seat selection.

Can this be found out through ExpertFlyer?

Hi All,

I am booked on CX 417 and then 669 in October. Anyone flown these two legs in recent times ? I am mainly looking at seat comfort/legroom on these short flights that are in their Regional Biz Format.

Are there any better airlines to get to BKK on ?

TIA if you can help.

I don't like the CX regional seats. For me, in the standard sitting position, the angle of the seat pan makes me feel like I'm going to tip forwards out of the seat. Reclining, not so great either. I far prefer the old seats.

Legroom is fine. Studio IFE is great. Service and everything else is the equivalent of their long haul, just maybe a course less.

TG is using their 77W full flat bed on the ICN-TPE-BKK flight (TG635 departure 1730 ish). The stop in TPE is a pain, but it's full flat (unless you get TG'ed)

Have you checked to see if OZ has any specials?
Direct to BKK and I found their A380 comfortable and roomy

Yes ring the Plat LIne and ask them to link the two bookings then see if you can select seats together on the EMIRATES website of not then ring them and get them to seat you together. There would normally be no charge just explain the situation.

Just reporting back. The problem (lesson learned) is that there are two separate itineraries. Although QF can tag the two together so Emirates can see we are travelling together at checkin, they can't be combined into one itinerary to piggyback my status. So i have picked my seat and will do Mrs_G 48hrs before the flight.

If you ring Emirates they should do this for you they have done for me and Mrs Ansett previously when on separate PNR.

Ask them to combine the bookings? Even if they are QF booking on EK metal? Just want to make sure what I am asking for.

No, EK have acceded to seating requests based on the higher status passenger for 2 separate bookings. Just ring them an politely say “can my lower status wife please sit next to me” (though not in front of wife)

Hey All,

I know everyone's thoughts will be different, but i have a HKG-SYD flight coming up next week on a 747, and have the option of 58A or 46G. I am almost at the point of tossing a coin, and cannot find any recent enough reviews to go by for 58A - it's definitely a refurbished bird, so as the exit goes, it should not be as bad as previously, but i'm still torn.

Any recent experiences/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Go for 46G. The legroom in that seat is better than 58A because I believe 58A has a large intrusion from the exit door right where your legroom should be. It's still OK, but 46G doesn't have this.

FWIW, I've sat in 46H flying HKG-SYD and slept pretty well.
