Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Question for the experts:
QF16 LAX-BNE on 27/2/11.
Returning from my first ever O/S trip (and it's for all of five days, what a waste!)

Looks like rows 36-39 are PE seats sold as economy. At the moment they're all blocked to a lowly SG like me. Are they likely to become available closer to the flight (i.e. similar to T-80 for domestic)?

Also, given how full the flight is looking based on the seatmap... what are my chances of being op-up'd on my non-upgradable sale fare? hey, one can dream...

Thanks!

Those rows are pretty empty so I would give QF a buzz to see if they can request a seat in the PE sold as Y cabin or keep on checking every day if you can select your seat there :D
They used to allow SG's to select their seats there before. Pfffff

I was wondering what my chances are of using points to upgrade to J from Y on QF108 JFK to SYD? On March 28th 2011. I am unsure how to find this infomation by myself.
Thanks so much for your help!

Has anybody flown in PE on the recently converted 747s with 56J/40W/275Y?

I've just booked a flight (SYD-FRA) in 3 weeks time and vv a week later (QF5/QF6) - my first time on this config (and route).

When booking international I'm always automatically assigned the front row of the cabin at booking time but this time I've been assigned row 30 in both directions (even though 29 is available for selection).

Rows 29 and 30 seem to be in a "mini cabin" at the front of PE. I'm the only person in it on SYD-FRA and there's one other on FRA-SYD so it's wide open for seat selection.

SeatGuru doesn't have any details on this cabin, so I'm a bit skeptical as in some configs the bulkhead has less room and am leaning towards sticking with my pre-assigned seats unless someone suggests that 29 is better :)

At this stage I'm thinking of sticking with my preassigned seats unless anyone has any experience in 29A/B/J/K ?

On another note, I'm a bit bummed as on all the surrounding dates PE is in Skybeds but alas my dates for travel aren't flexible apart from choosing from either Saturday or Sunday on my outbound leg. Hopefully there'll be an equipment change closer to the date (it's a gamble I'm willing to take as PE is 30% of the cost of J right now) :)

My QF094 A380 flight LAX-MEL on Sat 18 June was changed to a 747 thereby making me lose seat 80A.

I currently have seat 52A selected (B&C are both available). Is there a better seat than the bulkhead I should select? Seat Guru says there is limited legroom in that row and I was wondering about seats 70-73. I'm travelling by myself.

Any musings appreciated.

Hi all, I've just booked QF754 (ADL-DRW) on Thursday July 7. qantas.com indicates a 767 will operate this flight, not uncommon for high season in the territory. Does anyone have any idea which config 767 this is likely to be this far in advance? I'd like to choose a seat on seatguru with the correct version of this aircraft in mind. Thanks

I flew PE SYD-NRT back in January as I was lucky enough to get an op-up from my lowly Y seat. :D

As it was an op-up I didn't get a chance to choose my seat and was happy enough that I still managed to get a window, let alone care about which part of the cabin I was in. As it turned out I got 35K, which looks to be similar to row 29 as it has a bulkhead and only one row behind it.
I was extremely happy with 35K, as the leg room at the bulkhead was fantastic. My legs couldn't make it to the bulkhead (I'm over 6 foot tall) and I could easily walk around the person in 35J without disturbing them whenever I wanted to get up.

Judging by the seat map on the Qantas website I'd jump at 29J/K, as they appear to have heaps of leg room while 29A/B look as though they may have less. Although, the seat map could also be read that 35J/K don't have as much room as they do - don't know what the box in front of them signifies but I distinctly remember enjoying the view from all 3 windows and not having any trip hazard.

Judging by Qantas' seat map 35J/K are the roomiest PE seats, followed by 29J/K and then 29A/B.

This isn't exactly the spot but I didn't want to start a new thread.

I did OLCI last night for my flight SYD-DRW this evening and changed my seat from that previously selected a few days ago. I printed out my BP and thought that was that.

I've gone back in this morning just to move my seat further forward for the return leg on Sunday and I note the outward bound leg (tonight) still has me in the original seat, not the one I changed to that is on my BP.

So which seat am I in? Will I find someone sitting in my seat? Or hasn't it updated?

Did you go through the process to check the seat map? My bookings often seem to reflect whatever seat I had when check-in started, not what I am currently in. If I go through the check-in process it shows the seat I think I am in!

I have searched through the site and guess this is as good a place to pose my question.

I have been trying to allocate a seat for my daughter on QF006 SIN - SYD departing on Tues Mar 15. She is NB and 36G is showing as available. I have search through Seat Guru and Seat Expert and none can give me a definite version of which 747 400 will be operating on that route (I know aircraft types can be change anytime for operational reason).

Online, in manage my booking for that flight, Row 36 is showing as a 2-4-2 configuration. Looking at the varoius configurations of QF 747 400, a Row 36 that shows a 2-4-2 configuration is a PE seat. Am I correct? Or did I make a boo boo in selecting that seat even though she wanted a window seat anywhere.

Cheers,
Ric

2x4x2 seating on a Qantas 744 is most definitely a PE seat. (Economy seating has the form 3x4x3)

In an A330-200 Intl config J class bulk head seat

Where is the TV screen. bulk head or in the seat.

I have never seen a inseat TV screen for skybed 1, but have read this is where they are. want to catch up watching movies from take off, not after the seatbelt light goes out

Thanks Andy:arrow:

Serfty, many thanks. Just a little puzzled why would they (QF) let a NB the ability to select a PE seat on O class ticket!

Will report back on the outcome!

On a recent flight, my friend and his family (Party of 5) all got allocated Y+ seats on NRT-SYD, and they're all NBs ... quite impressive!

It reflected what I originally changed it to. Then I moved back a row. When I got to the airport I checked at the desk and the BP was correct. She couldn't work out why it would have changed unless the aircraft changed.
Anyway no big deal in the end, the plane was only 2/3 full so I could have had a row up the back.

Hi All,

Looking for a little clarification and advice on QF 747 J seating please.

Mrs Z and I are booked on QF5 SYD-SIN July 21st (classic award) and have been allocated seats 13J and K.

Seat map shows lower deck with seats 1-4 and 23-24. Are seats 1-4 in F cabin with J service?

At the moment 3AB, whole of row 4, 23DEF and whole of row 24 are available lower deck and 13AB and 18JK are available on upper deck.

If 1-4 are in F cabin I assume this is the best to book? If not, tempted to stay on upper deck.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Zeit,
QF5 is the aircraft that continues on to FRA. At the moment this aircraft is a 3 class 747 so rows 1-4 are just the normal skyslopes mark1.
I can see on the seatmap that row 16AB (upperdeck exit row) are still available so I would give QF a buzz and ask for those seats. Just my personal preference ;)

Personally I would try for 3AB or row 4. Then row 16 as a fall back position.

Oz and strait,

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Strait, why would you choose 3AB or 4 over upper deck?

I think I remember reading that upper deck has slightly longer beds, or am I making this up? I'm 6'2" and Mrs Z will be 6 months pregnant so space is an important factor.

Have read conflicting opinions on lower vs upper deck and have no personal experience of flying J in 747.

Thanks,

Zeit
