SFO routes dropped?

We have SYD-SFO booked mid January. I am on a paid ticket but my husband has a Classic Reward booking. The bookings are a few months old and have been ticketed.

Should we be concerned?

I have a bunch of travel in November / December and no one wants to fly United, understandbly ;)

I did a bit of flying on United lately (all in J/F) and it really wasn't that bad.

The Polaris hard product to/from Australia is quite good and the Polaris lounge in SFO is great.

Agree, as much as i hate to say it, UA has significantly improved - esp ex SFO with the Polaris lounge. Catering is decent now (in J), and Polaris 1-2-1 is pretty good, though of course the flight attendants can still be hit or miss. I would now pick UA SFO-SYD direct rather than QF via LAX (i never thought i would utter those words).

I don't mind the new Polaris seats, but have to disagree on the catering - I flew them last month and it was pretty foul, even for airplane food.

Regardless in this case, my boss does not fly UA - has had too many issues with them over the past few years - poor service, cancelled flights, lost luggage and cough lounges. So if my boss doesn't fly them and he is on this trip, no one does ;)

Agree, catering is definitely not on par with QF, but better than i expected (which was not very high). Polaris lounge can almost rival QF F.

UA has good cafeteria style comfort food. None of the pretentious overtones of QF, which is all talk and rarely delivers… except for the PR shots that influencers and other aviation ‘news’ sites seem to lap up. The ‘plant-based creation’ on my flight to LAX was simply a vegetarian meal, and looked nothing like the glamour shots.

My SQ economy flight yesterday had better food than QF J SYD-LAX!

Anyone with any more intel on SFO flights on QF metal...?

We have a bunch of work trips coming up and no one wants to fly UA.

@pauly7 any insight?

My personal (not professional) opinion is that with the huge uptick in demand for international services, QF (and indeed most carriers) are running the ruler over all their operations to see what they can launch and support over the next 6 months.

All major airlines and airports are struggling to get staff and aircraft so it’s a balance between reinstating / launching new routes and the ability to service them.

I have been watching recent flight reports between Aus and USA and the food offering on Delta and United seem to be well above Qantas offerings.

We’ve had big reliability issues with United as well so we don’t use them. Long story and off topic.

Anyway still putting people on LAX and transferring.

Have a query into QF to see if SFO is going to return this year.

On another forum apparently they are trying to get more new 787’s from Boeing delivered and speed up the return of the A380’s in order to fulfil international demand…. So doesn’t sound hopeful that SFO will come back quickly…

General consensus amongst staff is that SFO is a long way off returning

Yea I hear the same. I guess if they are selling out LAX it’s a sure bet when they are still waiting for more planes and staff stability too.
We wait in hope!

I’m booked to fly in Dec, just noticed the flight is no longer for sale.
I hope they formally cancel it soon so rebooking can begin
