SFO routes dropped?

But they had been planning to run BNE-LAX on A330’s at one stage hadn’t they so BNE-SFO could have been a option if they were serious about flying there.
QF still do run A330s on BNE-LAX (crewed by Jetconnect) - this just increased to 10x weekly requiring 3 frames.

It was originally planned that BNE-SFO will be restarted with QF's A330s, but very unlikely that QF will restart the short lived BNE-SFO service for the foreseeable future now that there's upcoming (State Government subsidised) competition that is beginning in late October with a 3x weekly 789.

MEL-LAX was due to change to an A380 route from December, but is now being sold as a 787 service. I wonder if they're taking 787s from SYD-SFO in order to do that?

Slightly off-topic, QF did announce a daily 787 MEL-SIN service beginning around that time, so perhaps it's being rotated with MEL-LAX.

As for the A380, perhaps extra SYD-LAX (QF17/18) on top of QF11/12? As it seems QF11/12 is a mixture of 789 and 388 atm.

Quite possibly. We do know they are trying to bring more A380s and 787s online to service demand but there are delays with both…

The recently announced increased 787 flying out of MEL (SIN, DFW, etc) also suggest the the remaining 3 787s will be on property before the end of this year?

After a long hiatus with deliveries due to sorting 787 issues, it's known that Boeing has restarted 787 deliveries with the most recent deliveries to AA.

The 787 MEL-SIN isn’t due to start till March next year

same here. Can't wait for them to just dump us in LAX
I have four SYD-SFO J fares that were booked for 27/12/22 and QF wanted to move to 28/12/22 with the schedule change. Was wanting to move to 26/12/22, as I have accomodation booked for 27/12/22 however noticed they are not selling SFO-SYD anymore, which has been reported up thread. Has anyone hear anymore on the SFO-SYD resumption date, I was ultimately heading to YVR so wouldn't mind if I can shift onto a direct flight there. I haven't accepted the schedule change yet, should I?

probably wont make much difference as until the SFO route is formally postponed (flight cancelled) the call centre wont be able to move you to another route.

Has there been any formal word on resumption? I noticed that there are award seats next year but presumably book AYOR?

This actually might be a good one for the AFF team to take to QF for an official response.... I just don't know who to page, there are so many of them :)

@AFF Editor @Mattg ? I can never remember who does what :)

It would be good to know or hopefully they make a call soon so there is room on alternative routes/flights etc! also makes it hard to plan and book accomodation.

Exactly. And since we just booked to J return awards into SFO and home from LAX for next year - the sooner the better we know if we're going to fly!

Seems like they are selling from Jan 30 onwards. Though that could also be a pipe dream

I'm booked from SFO back to SYD in March on a reward in J. If there was availability on the same day I'd proactively change it to LAX but there isn't, so I'm stuck.

Really poor form that this continues to happen. I understand these things can happen, but this has happened with the SYD-SFO multiple times now, and with the same disingenuous "cancelled but not officially cancelled" nonsense QF has been engaging in for the last several years.

A further erosion of trust in an environment where the tried and tired Covid excuses just aren't good enough anymore. Will QF open up reward space and rebook me on LAX-SYD if they cancel again (which still of courses puts the onus on me of getting to LAX), or will they just shrug and refund the points leaving me with even less time to find an alternative?

Despite the PR blitz this week, this just reminds me that the real problems (and disingenuous games) continue... yes, it's frustrating dealing with incompetent staff to do things the website can't do, but not knowing if a reward flight you've booked a year in advance will operate or an alternative offered is genuinely costly. Not to mention, QF 11 and QF 1 have both had 24+ hour delays in just the last few days. Around and around we go. But hey - at least those flights eventually operated?

We were booked SYD-SFO on 10/1/23 then scheduled was changed by QF to 11/1/23 so had to overnight in SYD. Rang QF and the SFO schedule is no longer available so only alternative is via LAX. Bit frustrating but what can you do as it was the first leg of our RTW.
