SFO routes dropped?

Managed to get my award tickets changed SFO-LAX-SYD (in J) and vice versa. No extra fees or points taken surprisingly, since it costs more if i was to book it anew. Got thru to someone in cape town after about 20mins (shockingly low based on past experience) and she seemed to know what she was doing. My strategy was just to look at SFO-LAX flights and vice versa on the QF website to see what they can see, then feed them the flights and asked them to put me on QF11/12. They seem to be flexible with opening reward seats on any date because of this involuntary change. Hopefully it works and is all ticketed but I would not be surprised if something gets messed up....
Also FYI, I wanted First Class seats for the domestic legs (since it says "your flight will be in business" when you select them) but initially she wouldn't do it as it appears as "First Class" on her system. I pushed and asked her to look at booking codes ("U" for First class since that's what AA/AS use now) and she managed to book them as "First class" seats for the domestic legs.

Unfortunately it’s an anomaly for AS bookings… their first/business class is charged at first class award prices. My AS booking for first was in E class as an award.

Great result. My take is that QF should not charge extra points for the redemption because of THEIR cancel not your voluntary choice. They are getting you where you need to go per your booking and shouldn't charge more for it. So that, in my view, is correct.

they appear to have fixed it again but this time with QF coded AA flights (which weren't available as rewards) and I have been simply put in J class...let's see what happens now...

any now they have added an additional flight to my booking...SFO to SYD non stop for the day after my original day...SYD-SFO uncancelled? Couldn't find the flight for sale though.

anyone who accepted a cancellation / refund on reward bookings make sure to check all points / $ refunded. I received only 3/4 points back and no cash. Not the first time either. If only there was a way to ask them to fix it ☎️🔨

Changed my flights to SFO-SYD direct in mid Oct. Looks like route has been postponed AGAIN until Oct 30. They moved me to LAX-SYD. Now to spend 20hrs on the phone to fix this cough.

Ugh yeah ive just received my email they have automatically changed mine to a flight from LAX...
which means i have to change my internal flight that was getting me to SFO..
and my connection in sydney to a domestic flight is now 20mins ? (not sure why they didnt auto change that too) Guess im in for a phone call haha

thats not even the worst - they changed my partners BNE-LAX flight (to same route but later) and have left the connection as is.. so she lands 4 hours too late (if its on schedule)

I wonder if Brisbane may be the first to see QF metal flying to SFO. There appears to be two issues here:

1. A lack of 787s which are needed from Sydney & Melbourne to make the trip to SFO

2. Competition from United who have flights for sale and will be taking away potential cash fares already.

BNE doesn’t have either issue. The A330 can make the trip (shorter than the current LAX route by about 500km) and no other airlines flying BNE to USA currently. QF are gradually ramping BNE to LAX to double daily, would say 3 x week of these be converted to SFO?

SFO is also a UA Hub, whereas QF has the AS hub at SFO (which is smaller than UA's).

As outlined, it doesn't seem the general FFers/public have any idea when the last few QF 789s are officially going to be delivered.

UA also has a WB aircraft shortage due to the 777 P&W groundings and they will slowly but gradually returned to service, but until then UA's unlikely to expand their current Australian footprint (from SYD and MEL) for the foreseeable future.

My flight from SFO to SYD end of Sep also cancelled put on a LAX to SYD flight. My ticket is a rewards OWA. I tried to get them to put me on a SFO LAX flight on that ticket but they said they couldn't as it wasn't QF metal. Does anyone know if that is true. In the past when I had a cancellation they requested that the partner airline release a rewards seat. They also said I could get compensation from Qantas Care for the flight I have to purchase. Is that likely the full cost of flight or some percentage?

Well three calls later (first two went to off shore call centres and put me on hold for "approval" then hung up) I got it sorted. Third call was an Aussie (so HBA i guess) and fixed it for me with no issue (SFO-LAX-SYD). Also the first two said it was impossible to change because they can't book flights on AS for SFO-LAX. I had looked up availability on the QF site for SFO-LAX and they had "First Class" availability for the date i wanted and QF opened up a U seat for the date i wanted too. Amazingly, I got the eticket a few hours later. My ticket is a QF award ticket also.

They could do my SFO-LAX award because there was award availability. You basically have 0.01% chance to get QF to do anything if there's no award availability. Previously when they cancelled SFO-SYD, I did manage to convince them to put me on revenue J SFO-LAX on AA (got a good agent), but then AA cancelled the flights, so they put me on QF codeshare AA (revenue) with a 10hr connection at LAX, which i did not accept and then they put me on revenue AS with a shorter connection. Best bet is to pick a date with award availability from SFO-LAX, and they will put you on LAX-SYD even if there is no award availability. I actually wanted to travel earlier, so it worked out for me.

Also, i think the only reason they put me on revenue J was because they couldn't figure out how to book the award seats on AS (which were available), so i might of just got lucky. And once it was a revenue booking class, they could easily change to other revenue booking classes.
