i hate the 5am flights out of Perth heading north..... blinds have to be down

AFAIK, there is no such thing as a shades-down-at-all-times brigade.

Who has ever advocated requesting shades down '... at night ....' ?

Very odd observation, JohnK !
I have been directed to have shades down in business class. Sorry forget the airline.

Cannot remember the exact details. May have been daytime flight.

From memory my shade was put down on a CX night flight in J - HongKong to Sydney. I didn't really notice except that it was up when I went to sleep and down when I woke up. I have had FAs walk through directing pax to lower their shades. I just assumed it was because they wanted all the little passengers to go to sleep and not annoy them!

QF128 a few days ago in 1K. Shades down automatically after take-off from HKG.

QF127 puts the shades down about an hour into the flight - at lunchtime! Absurd considering the time difference between SYD and HKG. I'm that annoying person in 2A who puts mine straight back up... And yes, I can see my own tv screen..!

Honesty is refreshing, saving lots of time (and words).

... And yes, I can see my own tv screen..!

The screen per se, yes I'm sure, but what about Denzel Washington's facial expressions ?

Before the ME vs THEM brigade jumps in, I'd say you're entitled to do what you feel like in your own seat.

Likewise, we're entitled to hold an opinion of such stance.

It's still a democracy I believe.

CNS-SYD last night QF J... Last hour of the flight, person in 1F decided to put the window shade up just a little... (The photos don't actually demonstrate how bright/sun-in-your-eyes it was, though they give a good enough indication).

You can also see the sun glistening through the glass. Every time I moved a glass or the other pax moved theirs, I copped a flash of the blazing sun in my eye.

The effect on my side of the plane.

Seems quite a nice effect in the cabin.
