Shop & Earn

How does "Velocity" know you have registered?

It works on affiliate links using special identifiers. Basically when you log onto the velocity page, they know who you are. When you click on a shop, you (and a random identifier that velocity knows) are passed to an affiliate type company. This then connects you to the shop.

When you make a purchase, the affiliate earns commission (and has a system of being able to identify the identifier used using cookies /entry time into shop / a unique code) . This then gets pushed back to velocity as the 'pending' status. Velocity knows who you are from the random identifier.

The shop themselves normally have to 'approve' the payment of the commission (in case you return the goods).

This works well normally, but sometimes has issues. In the ebay case, I assume they will post after 30-60days by themselves.

Plenty of similar websites in Australia and worldwide that use similar technology. An Australian exampe is Buckscoop - Your cashback and shopping community , an international one AAdvantage eShopping(SM) program or Cookies are Required

There's an interesting 740 point earning option that's just been added:

Earn 740 Velocity Points with BigPond Movies.

Register for your free 14 day trial with BigPond Movies and gain access to over 35,000 DVD titles online. There are no late fees, free delivery both ways, and no due dates so you can watch the movies when you are ready.

There is also 7 points/$ spent at Bigpond Music.

Got a reply for Velocity, which basically was a recitement of make sure you're signed in, have cookies enabled etc. Done all that, followed their instructions.

VCAT's turn I think.

I still think you should wait the 30-60 days befor VCATing the issue, but whatever you feel is appropriate.

I will be, but as nothing shows as pending, I will have my letter ready to go after those 60 days are up!

(Attempting to log into the Velocity site at the moment seems to yield a "system error"!)

Working for me...
Working for me but still nothing from store (pending or otherwise):
Your Transaction History openclose

Your Velocity Points will show in your account as ‘pending’ within 24 hours. The time it takes to register as ‘approved’ is determined entirely by the retailers and can take up to 60 days.

I have had the same response from Velocity. However they did ask that I send them details of the transactions. I have sent that through, now they are asking for the moment that I clciked on the link!! I can't recall the exact moment that I clicked the link.

I have nothing in my pending file though. and of course, cookies are on.

Donations made to Oxfam and WSPA (in Dec 08) have not shown up at all (not even pending). However, my transaction through strawberrynet.com showed up as pending instantly. Seems to be working for some and not for others??

Have sent through an enquiry to the good people at shopandearn.

A few more retailers have been added this week ;)

Also, ITUNES is now listed where as before I think it was just the Apple store.

Aussie Home Loans are gone now as well... funny enough, I am still waiting for points to show from that one...

Still waiting on points for Foxtel and Ebay as well - still outstanding, and not even showing in the pending section.

My transactions are showing up, however, most show an incorrect - lower - amount of point earning that they should.

You seem like one of the lucky ones that have transactions showing up :-)

I found this in the FAQ's section:

Will I earn Points for postage/handling or tax included in my transaction?
This will vary from one Retailer to the next. In most instances, we recommend calculating the Points you expect to earn based on the total transaction value before GST and postage/handling is applied.

So if you exclude shipping and GST does the amount look about right?

and I am yet to hear anything more about my missing points

Me either! I think it's safe to say that this is a bogus program. Don't offer rewards unless you are prepared to honour them. At the very least, some timely correspondence wouldn't hurt!

I wouldn't say I'm lucky, as I have been shopping online and earning commissions and points for many years. What you need to do is make sure you allow for Velocity to track your purchase by a number of small things. There is a bigger chance that a transaction will track if you use a browser just for commission earning online shopping, and clear the cookies before loggin into Velocity. After clicking on the link on Shopandearn that takes you to the retailer, wait until the site fully loads and the cookie is properly saved before navigating to a different part of the site. Many browsers will show you what sites are currently being accessed at the moment, and you will usually see Google-Analytics, and ClixGalore.

I'd say the most important thing to do is wait after completing the purchase. This at the point where you are thanked for the order and given an order number. Again, at this point, you will see information being sent to Google-Analytics and ClixGalore - including the value of the purchase.

The number of points tracking for me is definitely wrong, even after deducting postage and hangling: The retailer offers 2 points per $1 spent. I bought a product for $45, postage was $3, and the number of points tracked was 53.
