The irony of a big global player helping the little guy.

A small bribe helps us ignore the fact :)

"at one of the participating merchants listed"

It's probably similar to your bog standard everyday Woolies/Coles special......Amex runs it and the vendor/merchant pays for it.

Good luck to them - I hope the participating businesses end up making some coin.

I wish there was just a PDF file of participating businesses in the ACT. Much easier than that other silly search thing. Same with the 3 points per resturant thing.

I agree. While they are at it, they should make a book like Entertainment Values and offer discount coupons for dining. Amex Selects Dining hasn't been updated in a long time and currently not even usable.

I eventually got around to figuring out how to use that silly search. Works better with postcode search.

Just saw an ad on TV for the promotion though... wasn't exactly explicit that you had to register and it was limited

Businesses participating will have the shop small sticker or sign on display. They ave been popping up for about a fortnight which is when I first noticed them. a quick google then game the details. My office buildings cafe has it, as does my local Thai. so that is two sorted.

Personally, i am excited to see the shop small stickers. I had lunch at a japanese restaurant today near work that displayed the shop small sticker. Experience has been very positive with no surcharge :p so i will be coming back again.

I found if you search near by typing in "Westfield Sydney" or "David Jones Elizabeth Street" then followed by selecting category such as "Dining" or "Shopping", it gives many good choices nearby.

If anyone is having trouble figuring out what to buy, I have noticed many pharmacies on the list. It's a cheap way to get prescription meds and QV wash, etc.

I noticed that my friends store was still listed in my area(Newcastle, NSW) for the offer...it's been closed for 3 years! Generally I didn't see that much of interest - obviously not many participants, as has been noted before AMEX fees are not viable for many small businesses.

Happy to find my local dog hair clipping place had the sticker.
They have a cc surcharge but was the same for all cc cards so I was ok with that.
Eftpos was free but went with the Amex card.

We are a 'Shop Small' business but had trouble finding ourselves on their search map. Turned out we had been incorrectly classified, which from the Help Desk feedback, was a fairly common issue and is likely why people are having problems finding participating stores.

We'll be proactively suggesting to clients they register before the promotion period and then splitting payments as needed to make sure they get the most of it.

I think it's only one rebate per merchant, so they'd need two registered cards to get up to $20 back. Could be wrong though.

That's exactly what I wanted to do when having lunch. Split the bill with my friend who also has an Amex, that way we both can get a $10 credit each, provided we both spend over $20 on lunch.

anybody have a guess at whether it would be 5 times per account or per card....

ie can i use it 5 times and my additional cardholder can use it 5 times as well (since the AMEX numbers are unique and we are both registered)
or would it only be 5 times between us as they are on the same statement.?

Window dressing. What a ridiculous promotion. Drop your charges to match the other cards AMEX and then small businesses will happily accept your card or get rid of the surcharges they are imposing on AMEX users, then customers can and will use it.

So if you see an Amex sign but no shop small sticker does this mean the store is not participating in the promotion?

They would be participating if they have the shop small sticker. Also, just to make sure, do a quick search on the Shop Small map provided by Amex
