Finally come across my first store that got the sticker but doesn't actually accept Amex. I didn't ask where they got the sticker either and it's not a shop I would normally goto either...the bloke there (franchisee owner) seems to be peeve'ed at something and been extremely grumpy about the whole thing. Come to think of it, he was grumpy while serving the other 2 customers before me....

Way to go small biz, way to go...

2 of my local (favourite) eateries are taking part in this AMEX promo...2 nights ago, had dinner with +1 at one of them. Total Bill $42...split bill and paid with 2 registered Amex cards...so with 2x$10 rebate, dinner cost $22:p. Had dinner solo at the other restaurant last night. Total bill was $21, and with $10 rebate, dinner cost $11:lol:!. Will be dining solo again tonite, so might go back to same restaurant as last nite and order something different and pay with a different AMEX card :)

I'm in :D
My dry cleaners, pharmac_, nail bar and hairdresser are all listed. They all do take Amex and better still I'll be spending at them all before the end of the week :)

Got my first email about 2 seconds after Amex transaction at a cafe/restaurant informing me about my Shop Small credit. Nice!

I know I should have asked about the price, but I got burned at the local pharmac_. Bought a PBS medication. Last time (4 or 5 months ago) when I bought it at Chemist Warehouse, it was about $26. At the local pharmac_, I got charged $36.10. :(

Moral of the story. I'm not going to buy any more medications at the local pharmacies. It'll be all Chemist Warehouse from now on even if they only take Visa/Master.

Same here, the emails come through straight away once you put your purchase through. I like the tally and I still have 2 more shops to go. Following instructions have never been this fun :)

Thanks for using your Registered Card ending in ##### to Shop Small.

You can still get 2 more $10 statement credits by continuing to Shop Small in November. You have received $30 so far and can get another $20.

I've got 9 more to go. 4 on WBC Amex and 5 on Amex-Amex.

I have another email today telling me i've achieved a $10. Cant for the life of me know how - havent seen a single sign and have no recollection of which small business i've used the amex at....

Same. Wish I knew who it was!

I'm not getting any of these emails advising of qualifying purchases, but the credits are posting roughly two days later. I'm using a velocity platinum.

And in true forum style, I'm using entertainment book vouchers at restaurants. Two-for-one mains and triple points :D

3 down, 2 to go but my strategy has failed.

I have just paid $27 for medicine that would have cost $18 and wasted 50 minutes of my time in the process. Should have thought my strategy through properly. Some chemists are very expensive.

Gawd, the map search is terrible... luckily the one on the iPhone works a lot better!

It look as though they've mapped the registered address of the merchant account though, I've seen at least one case where it's the home address of (presumably) the business owner! (and a couple more that aren't walk in retailers.. :P
I now know where the owner of the cool local rockabilly cafe/bar lives... oops.

Top tip for Melbourne folks... there's a few meat vendors from Prahran MArket on there... half (over)priced steaks!

So very true. Luckily I did a google street view search or in my case I would of ended up on the doorsteps of the shoe shop's head office, where they don't sell shoes there. I would be given the boot instead.

The shop I had lunch today wanted a 3% surcharge to use Amex which came to $2:evil:...this is to get a $10 rebate from Amex:shock:

I called another chemist on the list that is nearby and to purchase 2 prescriptions I need would cost ~$8 more than the discount chemist I use. I thought they were not allowed to vary PBS prescriptions that much.

I am not into designer meat. Wherever I see lamb grilling chops or lamb loin chops for $15-$17/kg I know the place is a rip off.

See my post above #85 above. I got burnt by the local pharmac_. Never again!

Apologies I must have missed that post.

So chemists can charge anything they want as long as it is not higher than $36.10 which appears to be the maximum for PBS?

I use Discount drug stores in Brisbane and they accept Amex without surcharge and are generally very cheap and know me quite well now.
