Would you use an AFF Member luggage tag?

Offence? None taken at all! :D As an engineer (:p @ munitalP) I'm not supposed to be renowned for creativity. This was a quick job for a reason. ;) But in any case I knew improvements were needed, and a graphic designer - yeah, most probably - at least they can do the precision work.

What sort of engineer? My dad's a civil engineer, but teaches construction site safety, odd I know.

Different coloured tags may or may not be a great thing, but just thinking of it is......appealing.......

I guess I'd be offended if the gold tag was based on post counts, as I'm not quite there yet. However I did pay for the gold membership for the usefulness of discounted QP membership.

I was thinking how the AFF logo (the "arrow head" motif) on the back could be used for this purpose. Apart from that, those of us in the know may recognise people with certain coloured tags. Ideas really valued for this issue!

It is a recognisable logo!

#1 and #2 are correct!

Can't work out 3 and 4, however I reckon they're the small images of the internals of some international lounges found on Qantas' website. I just can't be bothered to check right now. Real procrastinator here.

A bit of a disadvantage of the AFF logo is that it is a JPEG; resizing it immediately results in a loss of quality. It also makes recolouring, retouching, etc. complicated, without needing to pull out the trusty but sluggish advanced graphics editing tools, or recreating the arrowhead motif itself. Admittedly, getting the arrowhead motif correct and isolated with reasonable quality was a bit of a time consumer for me.

Perhaps admin or someone else has the original designs or picture files for the logo, or similar?

I tried to fiddle with it but got frustrated quickly and lost interest. I'd assume the admin of AFF has bigger images somewhere and could provide them when this gets to the next stage.

Never seen one - want to take a pic and send it to me?

Mr!

This is the general shape:

Qualified as an environmental engineer; doing a PhD in mining engineering. Go on, call me weird...

Not sure what the stats are on how many gold subscribers there are in AFF. Naturally more is always good, but can you imagine an AFF Do where everyone has the same tag? (Oh wait, that is part of the idea, isn't it...)

I don't know if #3 or #4 are on the QF website, but I did not get them from there. In fact, these are not oneworld lounges at all - now there's a hint... ;)

Weird....

LOL

The only real engineer is an electrical engineer! ;)

Simon, yep, like a QF tag - that's what I was thinking.

The overwelming response sofar i yes - a surprise.

I think he (we) might have been expecting a slightly, if not significantly, more critical response set.

Oh yes, I forget most people that post on the internet don't want to be identified and are heavily into privacy. But with the amount of meet-ups held by members on this site, I wouldn't of thought it was a bad idea, and clearly it isn't... :p

It wasn't really the privacy thing as much as people actually wanting to get one such tag, and as can be seen would want a decent one.

I think it's a great idea. Not only has this poll shown that people would want the tag, they want good ones and are prepared to pay for them (within suitable reason).

And wouldn't you know it there's a flaw with my initial designs.

I've tried to get the "frequentflyer.com.au" bit looking similar to the logo text, sans the colour.
  • "frequent" is bolded whilst "flyer" is not; my initial designs have it the wrong way around.
  • ".com.au" is about half the size of the other two words.
  • "frequent" is straight up whilst "flyer" is italicised; in my design the whole thing is italicised.

Yes, I'm being rather cough here.......

Yeah it's a heck of a lot of different font styles. It works in the logo, but hard to replicate ;)

I did expect a far more critical response! I don't think privacy between members on this site is an issue - sure there are "lurkers" out there, but most of us are genuine frequent travellers and we see a meet and greet as a good thing, not as a stalk fest or anything else. I for one enjoy meeting new faces on this forum (although not nearly enougth) and have made a number of new friends here.

Having a good design that is acceptable to most everyone (remember you can please some of the people some of the time theory), and even getting members now to scan an airline tag they particually like to help with the design - I can say this will go ahead judging by the response!

Just as a matter of interest, what privacy issues do you see with people having AFF luggage tags, versus say airline club or hotel club tags?

Actually they are quite different to QFF tags. The QFF are more flimsy and two part- the AA tags are a single hard piece. QFF are shorter and fatter as well.

QUite a big difference really. I see someone with QFF tag and I have no idea who they are. With an AFF tag I get to put a face to a name...

The sheer numbers of people who have hotel tags/airline tags makes anyone who has one almost blend into the background. Also the fact that we often publish some identifying information about ourselves online (eg will be at X lounge around about Y time etc), or a colleague could see a AFF bag tag, and then start poking around trying to work out who you were online etc.

I guess that's a good reason to remove .com.au from the tag (although the Google savvy will still get us). Or remove "frequentflyer" altogether.....

How about "AFF" in supersize bold fonts, and underneath that an option to personalise something...... like a place for your handle? name? telephone number?

I'd be happy with just a generic tag, I don't see why it would need to have your handle or anything like that on it......

There should be somewhere on it that you can write your name, address, etc. though as per most other baggage tags.

Is a bag really that still long enough for someone to get all the details off of? What about Facebook, google etc. - its not that difficult to find stuff out about someone if you really wanted to...

I would be happy to pay a little for it - even if i had to purchase membership, which is what im wanting to do anyway. Designs look good at the moment - when my brains returns to being useful i'll add my opinion!

I guess we'll be waiting a while then

I think the above is the way to go.

Double sided, large AFF in red on the blue background (the 'corp' colours) with one of those little white strips on the bottom where I can write my email address or my handle here BAM1748.

I think if you start splitting AFF people into various levels of gold, silver etc it just splits a relatively small group into even smaller groups.
