I'd give the tags a go. Maybe I might be guested into a FLounge because someone here saw my AFF tags

Yeah I would give them a go,and I would be prepared to pay,but tacking on to Mr P's idea perhaps those of us who are gold AFF members could have a gold tag,and maybe they could be included in the gold membership package?
This may give new members an incentive to become full, gold members.
and perhaps the other members could be asked for a small ($4-5 ?) charge for them.

I'm in, and would prefer paying more for proper looking bag tags rather than laminated cardboard. :)

Any graphic designers who could whip something up? I'm hopeless when it comes to graphics...

Cheers,
- Febs.

I would get them if they were like the hard solid plastic tags like the AA ones. They are a good size too.

Good idea. :D

What's wrong with the secret gesture? Followed by the secret handshake...

I don't really like the Flyertalk tags, or any similar tags which blare "I'm a member of <insert website here>". Not really something I like check-in staff, cabin crew etc to see and people around me to note unless I want them to.

I would prefer instead to have some kind of generic design that can be used to identify each other, and have FrequentFlyer in very small print somewhere on the card (or on the back etc).

I presume my views are contrary to other people's views ... but oh well.. :)

Not wanting to distract anyone from a very good, and serious suggestion,
I thought something like this might be appropriate for the reverse side of the tag(Other side will have space for name and address).:lol:

Mal, i do understand what you mean, that makes a lot of sense, you don't want to stand out too much. Then again my platinum luggage tags already stand out a fair bit but i mostly fly QF so no harm there :)

No my views are contrary to other people's views. I do not want to pay for something that will give someone free advertising. And I put the Flyertalk tag on my laptop bag yesterday and I agree it does look silly.

Just like I do not buy designer clothes, like Nike, with the logo or brand on the clothes. Spend a small fortune on the clothes and then give them free advertising as well by wearing the clothes. No thanks. I will support lesser known brands....

It all starts with an idea, I guess....

...I was bored over the last few days and came up with these. And for those of you curious enough, no this did not take me long at all. Intended to be printed on a credit card alike.

These are low-fidelity samples (I had to do this to attach to AFF), so obviously take this into account. Plus, of course I can't get a sparkling gold or silver. Colours could be based on either posting rank, or subscription status. Probably the former system might be better.

Extra points for anyone that can identify the four backgrounds ;)

I guess another idea for a generic design is to just replace the back side with the plain AFF blue logo.

Isn't that the same?

Look good, though they could do with some work, I assume we'd get a graphic designer to do a final version anyway. No offence. I'm not sure if having different coloured tags is really worth it, kind of undecided on that whole thing.

However I do agree that the tag could be something that doesn't stand out a mile away, something subtle that other members/posters/users would recognise, but others wouldn't be able to just look at and know what it was from.

As for the photos:
  1. Sydney QF F Lounge
  2. Hong Kong CX Wing
  3. Dunno
  4. Dunno

Not to discount your work, but if this image was a little bigger:

Keep the logo and the strange background of the squares, rectangles; it's not a bad abstract background that doesn't give away much. Then get rid of .com.au. I don't think frequentflyer gives away that much to the average person, other than you must be a frequent flyer. The logo to the left would be more of a give away, but you don't want to get rid of that. That then leaves enough space below the logo for your name/username.

On the back of some baggage tags and lower tier FF cards they sometimes mention "No Lounge Access". Maybe on the back of the AFF tag you could put something like "Would like a pass to the lounge". You'd have to get close to read it, but sort of a gesture for members here that can't get into a lounge.

I've just got ideas right now, not sure if they're any good.

Offence? None taken at all! :D As an engineer (:p @ munitalP) I'm not supposed to be renowned for creativity. This was a quick job for a reason. ;) But in any case I knew improvements were needed, and a graphic designer - yeah, most probably - at least they can do the precision work.

Different coloured tags may or may not be a great thing, but just thinking of it is......appealing.......

I was thinking how the AFF logo (the "arrow head" motif) on the back could be used for this purpose. Apart from that, those of us in the know may recognise people with certain coloured tags. Ideas really valued for this issue!

#1 and #2 are correct!

Ideas are good! That's what is needed - ideas and some people-time to try them out.

A bit of a disadvantage of the AFF logo is that it is a JPEG; resizing it immediately results in a loss of quality. It also makes recolouring, retouching, etc. complicated, without needing to pull out the trusty but sluggish advanced graphics editing tools, or recreating the arrowhead motif itself. Admittedly, getting the arrowhead motif correct and isolated with reasonable quality was a bit of a time consumer for me.

Perhaps admin or someone else has the original designs or picture files for the logo, or similar?
