Should I carry on or check my wedding dress?

I'm not sure how feasible it would be but your other option could be sending via registered post/courier service and getting it steamed once there. That would avoid the worry of getting it lost in checked in baggage and the hassle of carrying it aboard.
A courier has potential.

Just looked at Fedex and $256 - $330 based on 5kg. Probably more than I want to spend on a courier. No idea how much the gown weighs though.....

Buy a cheap but very large suitcase so that the amount of folding and creasing is minimised. I think those $2 China Import stores usually have such ones. You can check it in and it surely will be within weight.

On the way home it can go anywhere!

and maybe fill any excess space in the suitcase with bubble wrap or similar to prevent it crumpling down with gravity as it's shoved from hither to yon..??? would be a shame to risk the hold though if the airline would agree to hand luggage . . . you will make a stunning bride, such a wonderful dress..!!!

Hey MissB bet that aunty of yours who was trying to tell you when & where the reception would be (in QLD) is mighty ticked off now the wedding will be in Hawaii.

Definitely take as carry on.The FAs just go gaga at wedding dresses. On our last AA flight a woman from Y had a wedding dress. The FAs brought her up to F to store it.Only problem was she had the wedding dress in one hand and a piece of pizza + a coffee in the other.

We asked Mr's parents to pay for that Aunty.........

I'm lucky, my Aunties are excited and were trying to book before we even set a date!

Congratulations!!!
How exciting. Its a difficult one, sometimes the crew are lovely and wouldnt hesitate to help you out and other times you end up with total "beearches".
I would definitely try and take the dress on board.

All the best of luck to you:D

The AFF community loves me. Just found out from Mr's SIL that his parents aren't coming. Well Mum isn't, Dad is waiting for a doc appointment. Mr will be calling tomorrow to find out what's going on and why they didn't tell us themselves.

Perhaps we can have a QP hens night for me?

I'm in. Maybe we can have it in Sydney F lounge for the last QF81 flight on April. There's lot of us.

I like that idea. Please no silly games! Just good food, drink and company. Although wearing a veil would be fun.

It's Saturday 13th. Check the thread started by Jessica Tam. I'd provide the link but I'm using tapatalk while husband is watching footy. Groan.

I've been stalking that thread. I should hurry up and book and hope there's a WP for me.

Just seeing this now, take it on board, i have seen the the crew re-arange every bag in J so that the dress could sit on top of all the rollerboards and not get damaged, that was for a Y pax too, so i would certainly agree with the comment the crew will help :)

We could include a few random strangers like the QP in ADL that time.

Just don't throw out an open invite like a guy from Hash House Harriers did when he got hitched in Switzerland. I think there ended up being quite a few extra guests!

That dress is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, swoon. Pleeeeease post a photo from your day!

Can tell who the girls are in this thread, ha! That goes for you Mal :p

Definitely carry on, no question about it.

My wife carried hers on. Well actually I carried it ;)

It was in a bag very similar to yours and there were no issues.
The cabin crew got pretty excited about it in fact.

On the way home it got jammed into the suitcase though.

Yes, I was in such a tizzy before my wedding last October that I pretty much just shoved it into my suitcase and rushed to the airport!
Congratulations, I'm sure you will receive lovely treatment on your flight =)
Beautiful style, I love the one shoulder, so flattering and lovely for a destination wedding as it is a bit less traditional.

We got married in Fiji last year and my wife packed her dress in her checked luggage - funnily enough neither of us thought to consider taking it on as hand luggage.

Fortunately nothing happened to the dress and the resort had it pressed the day before the wedding.

All the best for your big day!!
