Hubby bought me a Weber Kettle and I got a GoAnywhere (aka The Baby Weber) for road trips - the GA is a great piece of kit for small cooks.

I use the Inkbird 4T wifi thermometer and happy to buy again (when/if they update so we can use 5G)

I've always struggled with whole fish on the BBQ. Whole pumpkin is something I must try.
My Inkbird is the IBT-4XS

For those with the Inkbirds, I'm considering getting one for my smoker. Amazon currently have the wifi one on sale Inkbird WiFi Meat Thermometer Wireless Remote BBQ Thermometer IBBQ-4T with 4 Probes, Magnet Ovenproof Digital Cooking Thermometer Rechargeable for Smoker Electric Oven Grill Kitchen Food Candy: Kitchen Thermometers: Amazon.com.au

I'd like to use one probe in the meat and the second to just monitor the temperature inside the smoker. I presume that's possible? I'd want to set a range for the smoker probe, so that if it went outside the range I'd get an alarm. Is this possible?

Yes n Yes

I have the 4T and yes, you can place a prob inside the bbq to monitor temp and another in the meat/chicken ect.

FYI, 4T doesnt work on 5G but thats not been a prob for me yet.

I really like mine, easy to use, easy to charge. I do suggest you get the case to keep all your stuff in.

cheers

FWIW: The MEATER shows you both meat temperature and external temperature.

By 5G I presume you mean the 5G wifi spectrum as opposed to 5G mobile network? IF the former, certainly a non-issue. In fact, 2.4Ghz is going to give better range.

I like how compact it is, but it's Bluetooth only. At $200 for 50m Bluetooth range or $500 for wifi...they're dreaming!

It's actually a mix of Bluetooth and Wifi. The probe talks to the base station/charger unit via Bluetooth, and then the base station connects to your wifi network, which is how it connects to the app on my phone. I have the Meater+ unit which has the 50m range.

Although, while it shows the external and internal temperature, I haven't found a way to set an alert if the external temp goes over (or under) a limit.

No. The probe connects to the host box (long range) by bluetooth then the host box connects by wifi to your phone and tablet. Just a bottle of wine price - A$113.

Great device.

I cook mine to well done, so no need for fancy temp monitors. If I can see red it’s burnt some more

But the best steaks are AGED.
If I won lotto I would get a Dry Ager cabinet
If I won the lotto I’d just buy Dry Aged steaks from the butcher every week!

And Dry Aged meat should never be cooked well done. ”If it’s mooin’ I ain’t chewin’“ is not the way. YMMV.
