but it was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids on-board.
Sure Sure. Everyone minus the outraged normals who race to the internet to post the outrage.

The world is always outraged about something. It’s Kmart one minute, Qantas the next.

"It featured graphic nudity and a lot of sexting – the kind where you could literally read the texts on screen without needing headphones."

As opposed to the type of sexting requiring headphones so as to be able to read the texts on screen...? 🤔

Also, this quote from the article...
As a result, Qantas said staff asked passengers what movie they would like to watch, resulting in the movie Daddio (2023) being played to everyone on the flight.
So... they're suggesting that Qantas flight crew didn't unilaterally select an inappropriate movie. Rather, they asked passengers what they wanted to watch and said passengers selected Daddio. I smell a beat up.

Pretty poor judgement by someone in the crew.
Albeit I'm surprised the words survived the normal pretty conservative editing process.

Although the R rating is the US, not Australia, which equates to a MA rating here.

I don’t actually think they have R rated movies in the IFE and if they did, I would think they are edited down (many true R rated films have a tamer version for certain markets that won’t permit the content. Even Australia FTA stations often use the lower classification versions).

Yeah. I'd never heard of the movie, but looking it up it is rated MA in Australia.

This is according to IMDB: Rated R for language throughout, sexual material and brief graphic nudity.

That’s a US rating. Consistent with MA here from the description.

NC-17 is the US equivalent of Australian R. It’s very rare.

That just means it didn’t get a rating for the film festival.
