SilverSea sale

There seems to be a race to the bottom, not uncommon for debt laden corps.
The old SS , while quite wonderful in many ways, was a sinking ship.

So those who have cruised on other RCCL cruises get stayus match to 100 days at a minimum meaning you get free laundry and premium champagne on boarding plus the 5% Venetian discount.

They usually charge 100% extra for a solo traveller but usually offer a few at 25% extra. hardly any just now.

On occasions they have had no extra for a single pax.

Azamara have a zero extra for single passengers on at the moment and a fellow was able to change from a normal verandah suite to the owners suite at a lower price because of the no single supplement offer.

yes, that certainly makes it unattractive for someone like myself much the time. Although with the current sale I looked at a few in the Greek islands and they would be good value even with a SS but the itineraries just didn’t appeal.

Ponant on the other hand, have a webpage full of cruises with zero single supplements ( and on prime dates as well ) and I’ll be on at least two of them in 2026. And with some other discussion above about the state of SilverSea, travelling Ponant doesn’t seem so bad. 😊

I double checked the pricing on the expedition cruise I have booked for next year and the current sale fare is more than I paid earlier this year. As mentioned it is always worth checking the rates as Silversea will meet the new price if it is before final payment is made.

In relation to reduced single supplements. I have cruised solo with Silversea for 10 years and they used to be very good at offering a 25% single supplement on a large number of cruises. There were usually always at least 100 on offer. This has reduced significantly this year and there are now currently 3 cruises available! The last 2 cruises I have booked with them have had a 50% supplement.

I have done one Ponant cruise and didn't particularly enjoy it, so whilst they offer a range of no single supplement cruises I'm not sure I want to repeat the experience.

No. RCCL members would need to be Platinum or Emerald for 100 VS days. That’s still a fare few days at sea in higher end cabins.

Ironically, RCCL offloaded Azamara and bought SS. I don’t know any of the background for either decision.

But it takes very few days on either RCCL or Celebrity to get there especially in higher end suites. On Silversea doesn't matter how much you spend you still have to sail with them 100 days.
Someone on cruise critic was saying how they got the 100 days VS after only 13 days on celebrity. Loyal SS pax are beginning to desert. Why even I this week have looked at Crystal, Azamara and Seabourn.

Relatively speaking, they’re not huge benefits at 100 VS (which begs the question why such a high bar?).

BTW, you can only get to the higher tiers by sailing on SS metal. A bit like QF P1.

There’s probably catches with the discounts?

Free Laundry is always very useful. I received that in VV (using “Blue Extras” off a VA SM).

But is that because the quality / service / inclusions have changed?

The chances RCCL (or even CC) frequent cruisers flooding SS is pretty low. There is still a significant cost differential.

We booked a SS cruise a few days prior to this sale. Our TA is a Virtuoso agent and they offer better discounts off the RRP, so we got a discount off the original booking but this sale was an extra $1,500 off.
TA was able to change the booking to the new rate so we are very happy.

Interestingly I saw on the Venetian site that the upgraded champagne is not included for 100 days - I know there was one very unhappy cruiser on Cruise Critic who did not receive the upgraded champagne and was kicking up a right stink.
There have been some cutbacks - have just come back from Norway on Silver Dawn and did notice a few things that have changed - the automatic nuts/crisps with a drink now needed to specifically requested and a drink that was ordered by my companion which was not what she thought it was did not automatically get replaced with the correct one, rather a case of 'see if you like it'. In the past, no issue - 'sorry madam will replace straight away'. In our case, SS are starting to price themselves out of contention and will be looking at possible alternative lines in the future.
Our agent sent out an email with a 'secret' offer more than that advertised but need to contact them and as not looking to book anything I haven't bothered.

Upgraded champagne is at 250 days. I'm over 200 nights and have never received upgraded bubbles, and the way Silversea prices are going I may never receive it.

I did have a chuckle at the Cruise Critic thread (saga) of the missing champagne.

Dawn is a lovely ship - really like the size. Layout is a bit different from Muse but still works very well. Not sure about SALT as we were in Norway and their culinary offerings seemed to have a lot of cabbage and barley! 😁 Can only hope that other regions are better.

We had a good win price wise on Silversea yesterday. Our TA can work wonders at times. This was my post on Cruise critic.

Well things worked out for us today. We were awaiting SS to make a decision on our Singapore to Doha cruise which althouh it hadn't been advertised for months hadn't actually been cancelled. Well today we were told it was when we went to book a new cruise on the Spirit. The Singapore to Doha cruise was heavily discounted as they really mucked us around. But our TA got all those discounts plus an extra 15% off for having the Singapore Doha cruise cancelled. That brought the cost down to about 60% of the advertised price. Then with FCCs applied will be just 25% to pay.

I think they felt a little sorry having cancelled all 6 of our previous cruises.
We are on 495 nights so on the Spirit cruise we will get our certificate for the complimentary 14 day cruise. We were going to use our 7 day certificate on this cruise but won' as it would not be worth much.

So have been looking for back to back cruises one for at least 7 days and one at least 14 days to use both certificates. However we really can't find any interesting itineraries to do this.

Two months ago we had a 14 night Whisper cruise cancelled. She got us exactly the same itinerary just 4 months earlier for close to half the advertised price.

But although we are at 495 nights we did not get the upgraded champagne on boarding on our last 3 cruises.
We are looking at other lines.
