Singapore QF/BA lounge new changes

What exactly do you guys want? They are refurbishing the lounge which means they need to make other arrangements. If they bundle everyone in together people complain and foam at the mouth as firsts and Platinums have to share with everyone else and it is over crowded. They have made arrangements whereby some go to one lounge, some to another etc and still people complain. So the question remains what do you want Qantas to do?

an organised, fair approach to lounge services in SIN would be a start - the whole refurbishment (and the changed opening hours) has been a debacle from day 1, this is a just another chapter in the 'made up on the fly' approach they seem to be taking.

people have a right to be unhappy with what is happening because it is simple poorly organised and executed to date.

I would thought they will let WP have the same access facilities as WP1 and first as they are all on the same level.

Let SG and J in the current QF lounge and if they want to relegate JQ and QP to the SATS Premier then do so.

What is so unfair about the situation?

What is 'made up on the fly' / poorly organised or executed about this --- Creating a new lounge experience in Singapore

* A date has been set for refurbishment (under three months)
* Alternative lounges have been arranged and access negotiated in the meantime
* A relatively clear policy developed that provides the better lounges to the higher elites

I completely agree.

We were lead to believe that Qantas was refurbishing both lounges to a new, improved standard and by the end of 2012. The refurbishment was very clearly reiterated by Joyce at the last AGM.

Now, into the new year, the boundaries move again. As far as I can tell, the detail was just slipped into the website with nothing promoted, no media release (for what it's worth these days), no email.

It was reiterated by Joyce at the AGM, then something small changed.
The QF/EK announcement and with it a planned reduction in flights through SIN.
Comment then came out that the refurbs were on hold

No problems here with things, bar what I posted about QP members potentially having to pay for plonk, which would be a downgrade if so.

First lounge Singapore

Just flew QF2 in F LHR-SIN on WED on way to BNE and on landing were told we could use Emirates lounge. Whohoho. Far better than the tired QF lounges where there is no first and drab overcrowded lounges with terrible food. Emirates 'normal lounge' (F lounge being renovated apparently) is excellent. Great wines incl Poliziano Vino Nobile and more good food choices than you can poke a stick at.

Not sure if this applies only to F or whether WP's can also use it.

Ah... just read the other posts on AFF. It only applies to F and WP1's. can't share the spoils too far it seems.

The biggest issue with this I can see is this is the first time (to my knowledge) that WP1s have access to a lounge that WPs don't. I only hope this was done simply to manage numbers and is not the beginning of a trend. Either way, Feper must be very happy!

Ummmm ... the refreshment was to have had a First lounge to the same Newsonised theme as that for the MEL and SYD FLounges.

As for the refurbs being on hold - there has been no official notice of this. Only references I have come across have all been source to a single obscure quote attributed to an unnamed Qantas staff member on a web site.

I don't see this as a surprising development. It is interesting to split Platinum and P1. I assume CL would be directed to the EK lounge also?

The SATS lounge is okay - quality of alcohol is not great, but the food is usually reasonable enough. And the big winner for me is that it is usually quiet, although this may change with the barrage of QF fliers in the interim.

As far as I am aware it is still an AmEx / PP / DC lounge, so credit card holders should still have access if flying JQ, 3K or VF (or any other carrier for that matter).

There has been speculation that QF will pull First Class from Singapore eintirely and service SIN through a combination of JQ 330s and QF 330s.

I have not seen any confirmation of this as yet, merely the 're-timing' announcement. Anyone know more?

FWIW, as a regular traveller on the MEL-SIN corridor, SQ seems to have a more compelling offer than QF for business travel. Lounges are superiour in SIN, however far inferiour in MEL.

YMMV

I actually think that this really is just driven by capacity and not by impending doom for WP (as I alluded to earlier in the thread) - someone reported that the F section of the EK lounge is closed for refurbishment (as well) so they must already be under capacity constraints.

The A380s are certainly being pulled, and AFAIK there will be 747s from Melbourne. They don't seem to be selling first from Melbourne though, so maybe it is the 3 class (C,Y+,Y) birds that will be used.

That is the way I saw it too. I get the impression QF is just tryng to spread the load at a time of transition.

Flight timings means SIN does get hit with a bunch of QF flights at the same time.

It will be interesting if EK finish their refurb first (and the gap in time) whether WP will then get access to the EK lounge.

The QF 51/52 rotation from BNE is also a 744, but is sold without F, even if an F-equipped aircraft is used.
